Welcome to my channel How to Knot and in this video, I will be showing you how to tie an overhand knot, also known as a thumb knot or Stafford knot. A very simple stopper knot is part of the basics for knot tying. Its basic technic can be found in other knots such as the loop knot, reef knot, running knot, water knot, etc. Its applications are general purposes, farming, fishing, camping, climbing, and boating. #overhandknot #knottutorial #knottying

Taking the working end of the rope, form a loop.

Feed the working end through the loop

Then tighten and dress the knot accordingly pulling it tighter on itself.

This is a very strong and secure stopper knot that can jam badly making it untieable. It should only be used on applications where it’s a permanent fixture of the rope.

An example using the overhand knot as a stopper knot through a hole. This is a low-profile knot that can be used to hold a rope through a hole, prevent the rope from fraying at the end or provide a slightly larger object to grab onto.

Stronger options for a stopper knot would be the figure eight knot or the oysterman’s stopper knot.

Don't forget to give me a thumbs up and if you'd like to see more knot tying tutorials, subscribe to my channel.
