Source: Did way to much research when I was obsessed with RX8s.

I’ve had an ‘04 RX8 for a year with about 106k miles on the OG motor still going strong. If you do your pre-mixing, maintenance, Sohn adapter install, and just generally treat it right, it’ll treat you right. I’ve had 0 issues thus far in my year plus of owning it. 🔥🔥 Happy driving fellas

I have an 04 rx8, bought it at 72K from an autosports club without knowing what I was doing. The car appeared nice but needed a lot of work... Fast forward 30K miles & a few trips to the mechanic, I still have the car & love it! Now all my friends think its a perfect match for me & the only person that wants me to sell it is my wife :D . Burns a quart driving out the driveway but is so fun to drive!

I'd recommend mods that will support a longer healthier engine life. A sohn adaptor and fan controller are great cheap mods. Sohn adaptor will allow you to switch to a full synthetic oil for better lubricationas well as injecting a proper 2-stroke oil or straight premix into your engine. Also get some gauges for your oil pressure and temp. A high flow cat to let your engine breath better or cat-less if you don't mind an O2 sensor light always being on in the dash (bonus you can now spit flames). Upgrade those ignition coils as the OEM ones just don't have the duty cycle to keep up with a rotary engineD585 coils (LS coils) are the way to go. The general consensus in the rx7/rx8 forums is to stick with NGK plugs and wires. Intake isn't necessary, Mazda did a really great job with this factory airbox but Racing Beat's revi intake offers a modest improvement. These are a few things I have picked up over the span of 12 years owning a wankel. BTW, if you are on the market for finding a new battery for your rotary, consider steering clear of AGM type batteries. These engine bays get piping hot and old-fashioned flooded cell batteries handle heat better than AGM.

Bought my 2005 off Autotrader from the original owner. He had all the original docs, service records, window sticker etc. always garage kept and never driven in the winter or even in the rain somehow.

Took a one way flight to Massachusetts for it and drove it 13 hours back to North Carolina. Pretty wild experience but I’ve been daily driving it every day since and it’s been awesome. Pretty fun to say that my longest road trip I’ve ever taken was in an RX-8 of all cars. I’d say it’s well worth it if you’re prepared for what’s to come with these cars but the experience and community really makes it all worth it. Routine maintenance and the Italian tune up can keep this car running for a long time

I'd skip the intake upgrade entirely. The stock does everything just fine it's just bulky and a pain to remove. Get new coils, plugs and wires instead. The spark plugs are ~$100 for 4, BHR coils are not cheap but are better than doing an ls coil swap since they are drop in replacements. Stock Revision C coils are good too if you are on a Series I car. Series 2 (2009-2011) have the better coils from the factory but should probably be swapped anyhow.

I had an 04 Rx8 and I miss it lol I had JIC Magic coilovers, Bronze XXR wheels and a AEM Cold air. That's all it needed

i feel like people overhate the rx8. yeah it has its problems but older cars also have a lot of problems. I feel like it got the bad rep mainly because people didnt know how to take care of the engine. but a lot of youtubers are making videos about it that are actually pretty positive about the car. And i see a lot of comments of people hoping to one day get an rx8. Opinions of the car are starting to turn around for the better the last 2 years or so. So just like alex said i think in 5-10 years peoples opinions on rx8's will be very different. But even if that's not gonna happen i still like mine and thats what matters.

I own 2 RX-8s. People can believe whatever they want. It’s just like any other older car, just maintain it. The only difference is- this one loves being revved to the moon and will thank you for it. Well-taken cared of ones prices are going up and there’s not a lot of nice looking 6-spd manuals. So if you wanna get into the bandwagon now’s the time before it skyrockets because it’s the last pure rotary engine that came off the line and not an EV extender. I’m prepping to sell my ‘07 6spd streetported just rebuilt clean title if anyone’s interested I’ll be here in Vegas.

Mine is pretty legendary in my friend group. It's only recently its down for a rebuild after running for 10 years reliably. All that time the motor hasn't been the problem. It's pretty stock. 6 port series 1 with a 6 speed manual. stock intake, ngk plugs, leads, coils, exedy racing clutch, decat to a Greddy supreme exhaust=mini flames. It's on Tein basis coilovers and has never failed to put a smile on a non believer's face when they drive it, even though they're used to "faster" cars. Something about that smooth rotary and agile combo does em dirty lol.

I almost bought one like 4 years ago. Decided to go with a Hyundai Genesis Coupe instead. Really glad I did.

Also future RX8 owners…you don’t have to rebuild the engine or have a shop. You can walk into a Mazda dealership and you can buy the Renesis engine directly from Mazda. You just have to find a dealership that will take the time. It cost 6-8k depending on dealership and you can just swap it out. #LongLiveThe#Rotary

The RX8 getting lots of press lately….We are back boys!!! Haha

The Rx8 is a dream of mine. I love how affordable they are too. Unfortunately I am afraid to own one until I have money for a project

Owned an RX8 for almost two years now and have to agree 🙌 Would you consider doing the Chevy Volt at some point too? I’ve seen them start to get more popular around my area’s meets and everyone who I’ve met says they’re a ton of fun. Potentially considering grabbing one. Worst case scenario I just end up with a decent daily. 🤷‍♂️
