Race swapping is BAD

Hollywood has for the past almost decade done things that would have black people believe that they have become more receptive to us and our culture when it's only about profiting off black culture instead of celebrating it. From anime adaptions to blockbusters I give my reasons as to why this is bad.

It goes BOTH ways; I would never accept a "white" Blade either 😄

There’s a Latina mermaid from the little mermaid animated series named Gabriella who is deaf and communicates using American Sign Language. That would make a great story.

Thanks for acknowledging this! I’m a ginger myself, a blue eyed one mind you, and am annoyed with Ariel the most. She was my fav growing up and redheads with blue eyes are the smallest minority in the world. Explain that replacement, Disney!

It clearly shows that this period of entertainment is lacking creativity and diversity. Their version of creativity is basically copy and paste but make this character black and a lesbian.

Thank you for saying all this. Mad respect. I fully agree. Besides creating new black characters, there's already so many great black characters in existence, they just get no promotion or coverage. Static Shock is one of my favorite characters, where's his movie at? That flick would be so sick. Doctor Voodoo is so cool, I would love to see him star in a movie. Deathlok? He's like the Terminator and Robocop all rolled into one: a time-travelling killing machine, with shades of Frankenstein. Talk about badass.

This takes me back to asking why the Falcon had to become Captain America. What was wrong with him having his own series and being a bad ass as the Falcon?

Race swapping is just so dumb. It’s also so obvious as a ploy. Yeah sure okay there are disgusting racists out there and they say awful shit, because their hearts are twisted.. but my son loves black panther and my other son loves miles morales, and the first time I’m accused of being racist is when I dislike swapping out Ariel. Also… for the record I have been consistently pissed at (almost) any race swapping. Sam L Jackson is pretty sick as Nick Fury.

There’s other examples I’ve never had a problem with. I do think a focus on politics is something you can sense and feel when it comes to contrived casting.

I understand that black people didn’t have that representation for a very long time… but you don’t want hand me downs and sad political maneuvering and fake butt kissing.

To be fair, people were also pissed off when they changed the monk mast in DR strange from Asian to a white. People just don't seem to be happy with swapping out often period. And I agree. Changing a story that is supposed to a faithful representative of the original material seems lazy and dumb just in general. Just my two sense. And I also agree with you that Hollywood doesn't seem to want to create stories for new characters. I'm a mutt so to speak genetically (don't really look it, 😂) with some African American representation in DNA, so maybe I should "shut up" using media logic. 🤔
Either way, great video and I appreciate your input 👍

Can't wait to see how they justify a black snow white

You are spot on with Star Wars!!🙌🏼🙌🏼 As a long time fan, it hurts to say I now despise this franchise thanks to Kathleen Kennedy and Disney.

I AGREE that the solution to this problem is to create more ORIGINAL black characters like Afro Samurai, Blade, or Spawn, instead of using already popular white characters just to race swap them into black. 👍

Im not saying that race swap is 100% wrong, Im just saying that it’s kind of lazy. 👎

Agree with everything you said in this video! This has always been what I have in mind, everytime there's a race swap, I can't help thinking that they should've made an original character authentically, so for example, actual black mermaid from Africa, like Yemaya. Not just Ariel being race swapped. But of course, people will still call me a racist for that.

One thing though, in the beginning - sadly a lot of people do react that way about the race swaps. A lot of people from all communities celebrate it. Though I'm glad that there are still people who don't want to accept these lazy hand-me-downs.

🖤🖤🖤 I’m going to write an essay about this in the near future, and maybe make a video. It seems necessary.🔥😤

I was a brown kid, a Tamil girl, who grew up in a predominantly white county. I was bullied, excluded, harassed, for my skin colour and ethnicity. My half white cousin joined the bullies. That was my childhood.

Now as a new adult, a Tamil woman, I fear and worry about the exact opposite problem. I enter competitions and contests, I represent, I work hard and smart and I’m an achiever. Yet whenever I win an award or am chosen for something, there is a sick feeling swirling in the pit of my stomach. I seriously worry about the fact that, what if I’m not being chosen for my hard work and skill and performance, but being favoured because I’m a minority? Even if somebody who is white entered the contest too, and maybe even did a better job, what if I was chosen and they weren’t, because diversity is woke and looks good?

From being excluded my whole childhood because of my skin colour to being included because of my skin colour as an adult, can I ever catch a break? Blatant discrimination exists on both ends of the spectrum, and is inherently racist - even if you cloak it as being ‘diverse’. Studies have shown that in terms of both female representation and race, it only increases racial and gender tensions between people.
We are being reduced, once again, to our skin colour and exotic otherness, because of the moralisation of ‘diversity’.

Race Swapping is a classic example of this.

In the upcoming Percy Jackson series on Disney+, Annabeth Chase - a character who has been solidly established as white for 12 years since the first book realeased - a tanned, curly blonde grey eyed girl - has been cast by a black girl.

There is nothing racist with wanting accurate representation and staying true to the source material - as a fan, I feel betrayed. Race is NOT a flexible trait - it is a lived experience too. And this series is already quite diverse with over half the original characters being POC including original important, main black characters. There was absolutely zero need for Annabeth to be race swapped.

No hate to the beautiful and talented young black actress playing Annabeth, I’m sure she’ll do amazing. She got an opportunity and took it, made it to the top, so massive respect and applause to her 👏🏽. I take issue with the white author author thinking that race swapping is progressive, bringing politics into an apolitical children’s book series and erasing the actual canon characters. I can’t believe I now have to stand up not just for brown and black folks, but even white folks too - because they are being undermined by this, and it is just increasing tension between racial groups. It’s easy to see why.

Race swapping is wrong, lazy, and downright insulting to all racial groups involved. I want original characters of differing ethnicities, not a white character wrapped in black or brown or Asian wrapper. Stay true to the source material. You want more black characters? Than create more complex, original and well written black characters.

Thank you for making this video, bro. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. As an upcoming YA author, my characters are original and come from diverse ethnicities and backgrounds in a realistic manner. I don’t condone race swapping or naythign else of the sort. Keep making videos! 👏🏽💙💜💖💕✨☀️

Thats why they should hire more creative people in todays Hollywood.
People who can create new original stories to along with old original ones,
Not try to replace them.
What you are saying is exactly what my thoughts are!
