On June 27, 2017, the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC hosted Amb. James Dobbins, as he discussed his memoir “Foreign Service: Five Decades on the Frontlines of American Diplomacy” and his diplomatic career. Amb. Jenonne Walker, former US Ambassador to the Czech Republic, serves as discussant.

Amb. James Dobbins, a career diplomat and ambassador, has spent most of his career negotiating and advising for the United States government. From the Vietnam War to military intervention in Bosnia, Haiti and Afghanistan he has participated as the Secretary of State for the Balkans, a special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the Ambassador to the European Community. He has experienced America’s policy successes and its failures. What lessons can be applied to diplomatic issues we face today?
