Caruso would've been the greatest Otello (and Calaf) in recorded history, if he had lived to sing the role.

I Bought and sold a copy of this 78rpm Record back in 1971: 50 years after Caruso's Death and I found out years later that the Recording was made 8 Months before World War One Broke out and I've now got a copy of the Recording Reissued under licence by His Master's Voice in the Golden Treasury of Immortal Performances on a LP Called the Art of Caruso Volume one Record Number CSLP-510 Reissued in 1956 the year I was Born and there only 18 LP Records issued in the Serious Mainly Vocal but there are a few intrimental and I found out years later that the Recording was made Eight Months before World War One Broke out

This is incredible, but Caruso said his greatest recorded duet was Solenne in quest'ora, and there is a broadcast on youtube with Frances Robinson of the Metropoltan Opera with Bruno Zirato, who was Caruso's secretary. in which he states that Caruso said his greatest record was his recording of Quando nascesti tu
