The thing is this “gender fluid” character has no lines at all and Pixar just announced on their own that they’re non binary. “Look at us!! We’re so inclusive!!! Look!! Look!!”

Anyways it can’t necessarily be a hidden detail when it’s not hinted at anywhere in the story 😭

My favorite fact about Elemental is that the writer “Peter Sohn” based it off of his family’s story. Sohn’s parents came to America from Korea and Sohn’s dad bought a building and made it into a store. Sohn’s dad started off as a Hot Dog vendor, and saved money to buy a building which would become their store.
