I was not expecting a beautiful piano ballad but here we are... This was absolutely gorgeous! His voice is just impressive as hell and fits the music so well. The piano completely drives the song and you guys know I am always here for that.

The album cover has pictures representing each song on the album. Mad Man Moon is shown as the cloudy horse in front of the moon. This is a beautiful song and is speculated to be Tony's reaction to Peter Gabriel leaving the group. I agree with you that the piano is spectacular. An intricate but amazing song.

Cathedral Pines, Long Island NY. I was there when I first noticed Steve’s guitar wail on the section: “so I pretended to have wings for my arms”
It instantly changed my tastes in music at age 10.

Doesn´t this song transport you to another place! This one, Entangled and Ripples are some serious trips on this album!

On this album, the most popular pieces are "Entangled" and "Ripples" but "Mad Man Moon" is the one I never tire of.

I think this song is really underrated and it's probably my personal favorite on the album. The musical phrasing on its own feels like a kind of melancholia looking for a transforming energy and it does just that. Oh, and if you go to the next album in this time period, WIND AND WUTHERING, the song BLOOD ON THE ROOFTOPS is an essential, written by Steve Hackett and Phil Collins.

Man, I was obsessed with this album back in the day. This track was one of my favourites - just a gorgeously constructed piece. And Phil’s vocals are awesome. Such a melancholy vibe. Love it - thanks for the reaction.

Tony Banks is a maestro of the piano. So much well placed dissonances and smooth transitions.

Each one of the characters on the album cover represents a character in each of the songs.

Perfectly constructed, sumptuously arranged, sonically sophisticated. A true Tony Banks masterpiece, there's so many layered parts. A well-regarded genesis track, but it still doesn't get as much love as it deserves, imo.

Probably my favourite Genesis album; And although it's excellent, this is probably my fave track. Utterly superb in every way. So beautiful. Its largely Banks' doing, too.

I’m glad you chose this song, too. The album was a favorite of mine and every note on that piano took me right back. Beautiful song, and much needed today.

Mad Man Moon is one of those songs that tends to be forgotten when people talk about their favourite old Genesis songs, but it's right up in my top five. I went to see them when they toured this album. Sadly, they didn't play MMM, but I got my money's worth that night all the same.

Phil’s first album with Genesis?
He was with them since around 71 and this Trick is 4 or 5 years and 4 or 5 albums. He was on Supper’s Ready and the Lamb etc., and often did harmonies with PG. This was his first as lead vocalist 😎

Of all Genesis albums I like this one the most. No weak spot here. There are songs on other albums that are great too (FoF for example) but as an album this one stands out for me.
