Fun fact: Kylie Minogue and Roisin Murphy amongst others provided background vocals on the track "That!Feels Good".

So glad Jessie Ware did not retire after What’s Your Pleasure and gave us this

This has to be a 9 for me, the tracklist is extremely consistent and some of the best songs of the year are on this, especially Begin Again

I think What’s Your Pleasure was more consistent but the highs on this album were higher. I loved that she made the production even more lush and bombastic than the last album.

The only issue I have with this album, apart from the change of pace with Lightning, is... why isn't BEGIN AGAIN at the end of the record? It literally is the perfect closing song!

Let’s be honest - if “Pearls” were a Lizzo song, it would be #1 everywhere. It’s a pop smash, and her record company needs to promote getting it on radio in the States so that she gets the attention to ensure she gets her flowers for this album. It is 40 minutes of the most fun you’ll have listening to an album. I think it’s more fearless and funky than WYP, and while WYP is a slow burner that will not let go of you when it catches you, this grabs you immediately and doesn’t let go of you. From the 60s mod of Shake the Bottle (that will no doubt become a drag staple), to the sweaty four-on-the-floor freneticism of Freak Me Now (and the transition from Beautiful People into FMN is god-tier), this album is THAT BITCH. No one is doing it like Jessie. AOTY and it’s not even close.

If I had a nickel for everytime Fantano reviewed a pop artist with a large queer fanbase that he previously gave AOTY to, and said Lightning was his least fav song, I'd have two nickels. Isn't a lot, but weird it happened twice...

Freak Me Now was a total knockout. I need Jessie over more house stuff like that!

There, Anthony! She's literally RIGHT THERE! WHY do you keep asking where Jessie is? She's RIGHT BEHIND YOU!

Free Yourself is one of the biggest Instant earworm classics I’ve heard in so long, another great effort from Jessie

What's Your Pleasure felt like much-needed escapism during the height of the pandemic, like you're frantically trying to dance all the tension away. That! Feels Good! is more like a triumphant return from exile or isolation where you're just happy to be alive and seeing the world again. Maybe I'm off base but that's what it feels like.

WYP imprinted on my soul like no other album has but I am growing to love T!FG because its a reminder that Jessie is not afraid of reinventing herself even after creating something soooo good, i think she could've made an evermore to folklore type of project, but both albums WYP and T!FG are so fundamentally unique; in WYP she asks the question and sets an expectant tone full of mistery and passion but now that question is answered in T!FG the tone is so ecstatic like a fancy luxurious celebration

This album feels like a natural progression from WYP?, it doesn’t try to replicate it and proves that Jessie is no one trick pony. It trades in the electronic synths for a more organic groove led and soulful instrumentation.

Jessie Ware has done it again and can now easily lay claim to putting out two of this decades best records. There is a definite switch to a more Motown funk / soul / R&B disco vibe than what she presented on "What's Your Pleasure?" so its great to see that Jessie is not simply remaking "What's Your Pleasure? Part II" for 2023.
I've given it a few good listens already over the weekend and I do agree with you that I don't feel like it quite hits the highs of its predecessor (which in my eyes was a remarkable album, 2020's finest in fact), "That! Feels Good!" is still a darn good album. One of the years finest in fact.

Between Caroline Polachek and Jessie Ware, 2023's pop lanes have two new ruling Queens.

I love the running gag of my favourite tracks being Anthony's least favourite

This album is awesome, I agree it's not as great as Whats Your Pleasure but it's hard for a musician to sound so fresh and original after you just released your greatest album, and still so Jessie manages to pull out a great collection of songs. I love seeing her at her peak. Anyone who has the chance to see her live should do, it's a never ending party.

You said you’re torn on Shake The Bottle so I’ll make the decision for you — you love it. First listen was a little surprising as you’re not sure where it’s headed but when you listen to it in context of the album and remember Jessie saying this album was supposed to be a little dirtier, you realize it’s pure camp and nods to iconic queer dance anthems.

This album is so insanely catchy Jessie Ware should be arrested for lacing her songs with crack.

Obviously an 8 is an incredibly high score but this shit is definitely a 9 at the bare minimum. I think this is a case where Anthony’s expectations were stratospheric so it inevitably feels like a bit of a comedown after WYP. But this record is even better than that one for me.

Also to call the line “shake it ‘til the pearls fall off” silly is just… silly. That’s a great, fun, exuberant line.
