Learning to love 5G, and beyond | FT Tech

The rollout of 5G - the fifth-generation mobile network, that offers more speed, control and security than older networks - is gathering pace. But as Anna Gross explains, this rollout won’t be cheap, so far business uptake has been slow, and the question of how to monetise 5G applications still looms large. Despite that, some providers are already looking towards 6G.

Many 5g promoted use cases are not realistic.
For those factory robots, ethernet cable or wifi is much more faster and reliable than cellular 5g.

5G is an overhyped tech. You don't need 5G speeds to do the vast majority of things, and fiber + mesh WiFi is by far the best option for the home and small business. No business who values reliability and security would use 5G (or any other wireless tech) over ethernet in industrial applications, as burglars are already known to use RF jammers to disable WiFi home cameras. Finally any autonomous car application would require localized compute and storage because 5G (or any cellular service) would be unreliable on rural roads. OTA updates can easily be handled with home WiFi or 4G.

This smells like an ad placement. What people really need are dirt cheap unlimited data plans, which carriers can do (and some have done e.g. Jio in India) but choose not to because of profits.

How does reduced latency make us able to smell trough the network?

What are the safety parameters for 5G? At what distances, intensities and frequencies does it become safe or unsafe?

If you place an uncooked chicken 2 meters away from a 5G mast it will be roasted in under an hour.
