I think deep down Shane had a little respect for Dale purely for standing up to him

Dale represents the old world. Him dying was truly the end of the civilization before the walkers.

Shane is honestly one of those characters who was simply too ahead of his time. He saw what the world was coming to and everyone didn't believe it.

man i loved dale. he reminded me a lot of my grandma -- stubborn but very wise and headstrong, above all having a heart of gold

Shane was my favourite. Such an effect on the show when he wasn’t even on it that long.

I recently decided to rewatch TWD, fell off after s9 and found out the show was ending and they have all these spin offs going on. I gotta say, rewatching the first 2 seasons that it's some of the greatest television ever. The writing and acting are top tier, and I love the stuff like this. Dale still clinging to the old world morality in hopes of one day building back civilization like it was pre apocalypse. Dale is well spoken and honestly, fights a hard case, almost makes you support him. Shane on the other hand, has completely ditched the old world and has accepted the walker world for what it is, a survival of the fittest apocalypse where there is no place for morality. Shane in S2 is what Rick became in S5/S6. It's honestly astounding how far ahead of the pack Shane was. I know he went crazy with loving Lori and wanting to kill Rick so he could have her and rule the group, but ultimately he was fit for the zombie world far better than the rest of them. It's honestly a shame he didn't get a chance to last longer, I would've loved to see him go up against the likes of the governor and negan.

Shane is aggressive but he did care about the group. He was willing to do whatever it takes for them to survive

I’m always really sad about this point with Shane because he was slowly starting to get away from his love for Lori, and he was actually turning out for the better, such as going with Ricks decisions finally, allowing dale to make his argument, not losing his shit completely with Randal during the discussion with herschels family.

But then Lori? Fucked everything up. She literally just had to go and talk to Shane and tell him she was sorry, to rekindle that pain inside of him. Such a fucking tragedy

Looking back now. Dale was not meant to fight the Savior or Whisper Wars. He is too pure and those wars would have crushed him.

i like the little detail when dale says "and im not going anywhere shane just says "k"

1:16 - even though shane wants randall dead, i respect that he gives dale a fair shot at keeping him alive. even though he isn’t cut out to be a leader, shane would’ve easily lasted longer than anyone, including rick. it was rick killing him that started to turn rick into what he is now. shane would’ve had no problem with the apocalypse. also, jon bernthal is one hell of an actor.

Morally dale was dead right, logically he was dead wrong.

These 2 guys gave the best performances from the early seasons

Both characters represent the opposing and extreme ends of the Morality-Survivablity spectrum: Shane was pragmatic to the point of self-destruction, its implied it's only a matter of time before he betrays those close to him; Dale was moral (perhaps even moralistic) to the point of impracticality, which showcases Rick's relative balance in getting his hands dirty but understanding the lines that he draws for himself

Man I love this scene - two great characters talking man to man, despite all the grief they’ve given each other previously.

In my opinion dale was more dangerous than Shane. releasing randall for the sake of humanity could easily have gotten them all killed.

"You're not going anywhere?" " And i'm not goung anywhere". Both died shortly after that, it's a bit ironic

I wish they had kept Shane around for at just 3-4 seasons. His acting was phenomenal.

Very interesting because Shane here has the same mindset Rick grew into in later seasons. Shane knew what kind of world they are living in before any of the others started waking up.

Dale was such a powerful character, Rick Shane’s best friend couldn’t change his mind, but dale did, or at least kinda did by Shane agreeing to let the kid live if everyone else agreed, Dale probably was number 2 or 3 on the highest iq scale in the farm arc.
