You can do some light layers and then blend it with 'Zest it'. When the paper has tried you can apply more pencil. That method saves the tooth of the paper and gets rid of the white of the paper showing through the colour.
The colour wheel is beautiful!

A few of my Holbeins are also surprisingly scratchy (Prussian Blue, for example) but work very well for layering. I guess it's just random. Great video as always!

A very interesting video (or rather two) regarding the performance of the Luminance pencils. I'm using Luminance for about three years and I've always been happy with them. Before that I've been working with Polychromos and Prismacolors. I still use the Polychromos, but I never really liked the Prismacolors because of the poor quality of the casing and because none of the colors I really loved were lightfast). After having watched your video I tested my Brown Ochre 10% and my Burnt Sienna 10% and must say, that I don't have any issues with them. I admit that they feel a bit dryer than other pencils from the range but I'm not sure if that's what you mean when you talk about their scratchiness. I especially don't have problems with the Burnt Sienna being scratchy at one point and smooth at the other. However, a few days ago I received the new portrait collection pencils and think that some of them have a slightly lower quality then the ones from my original 72 set. The lead of the Green Earth for example is not well centered, the name print on the Indian Yellow is messed up, and the Rose Violet performs strange in relation to my other Luminance pencils (I find the color application very patchy, I would almost say it's too smooth if that makes any sense). Regarding all of this I wonder if the reasons for the behaviour of your pencils are quality issues. Do you have any Luminance pencils with the writing printed on them in silver (these are the older ones) or do all of your Luminance pencils have a white printing on the casing (the newer ones)? It would be interesting to compare the old and the new ones.

In my personal experience, the scratchy ones have been scratchy from the beginning! I haven't noticed a creamy one becoming scratchy part of the way through using it, for example. This is the only thing I don't like about Luminance - why must some of them be scratchy little suckers?! Most are beautifully creamy pencils and a pleasure to work with though. 🧡 Your colour wheel looks so lovely! [Edited to add: you have given me hope that a scratchy one may become less scratchy in time or if I give them a really good sharpen perhaps!]

I thought I had only a few of these pencils and was ready to buy more based on the nice colours you showed, when I checked my stock and realized I had quite a few which I don’t really use. Despite the nice colour range I find the performance doesn’t really justify the price, derwent drawing is more pleasant in my humble opinion. Hopefully they add more colours to the range in the future.

What kind of pencils are these? Chalk pastels? Watercolor? Or just reg colored pencils? Sorry, its new to me so cant tell them apart

You should complain directly to the manufacturer when you encounter problems with their products. After all, Jackson's merely sells these products. This way you are encouraging the manufacturer to improve their products.
