2024: RNLI rescue compilation – A year of saving lives at sea

As we commemorated 200 years of saving lives in 2024, lifeboat crews and lifeguards across the UK and Ireland launched to the rescue. Across 238 lifeboat stations and 239 lifeguarded beaches, we were ready to help those lives in danger at sea.

To all our viewers, thank you for your support in 2024. Your kindness is behind every rescue. Thank you for being part of our lifesaving family.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland are ready to launch to help those in need. Whether you're stuck on a sinking ship, cut off by a rapidly rising tide, or in the water and close to drowning, RNLI crew members will drop everything to come to your rescue. The vast majority of RNLI lifeboat crews and station staff are volunteers.

But it’s not just lifeboats. RNLI lifeguards patrol 242 beaches, keeping people safe, providing safety advice and rescuing those in trouble. Education volunteers visit schools and swimming clubs to help teach the next generation how to enjoy the water safely. And volunteer fundraisers and shop workers give up their time to generate vital funds. The RNLI is also working to help communities around the world that are most at risk of drowning.

If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

I wish and hope and pray. A big thank you to the RNLI not just to all the dedicated men and woman (and yes I deliberately say men and woman, there is no boys or girls) who dedicate their time and risk their own lives in their one goal to save others. I also wish to give a big thank you to all the support staff. The ones who are working behind the scenes. Eg cleaning or maintaining the equipment so that it is always available and in good operational order. To the staff who clean or just maybe get a tea ready for when the crews return. Thank you!!. You may think that what you are doing does not matter, but, it does, greatly and I am sure by those crews it is a heartfelt thanks. It is an entire team of people not just the crews which makes the RNLI such a wonderful organisation. It is one I wish them all the best for 2025 and beyond in the hope that all members stay safe and return from every shout. I know this is just a bunch of words written on a computer so has no meaning as such. But, believe me when say if was there in person. Then you would feel the emotion and the warmth and the deep respect I have for every single one of you within the RNLI.

Unsung legends....men and women who run to their stations day or night, many of whom have their own toddlers in bed...they run to their craft..gear up....and head out to yonder seas, sometimes huge swells, sometimes summers flats, ....their sole determination is to find the lost human being whether cut off by tide, stranded on rocks, engine failure, pushed out to sea on a sup/dinghy, dogs over cliffs, swimmers and surfers taken with the tide, exhaustion or rip ignore the oppurtunity to gift towards these men and women of the sea, for the sea is a spirit of many moods, she does not wait for us....
The seas do as they please....the seas are commanding respect at all times. And these brave men and women run engine out to sea, feeling the tides, the swells and mother natures moods, reading the pitch and roll inbetween the
All for you, the rest of us, ....the ones whom maybe one day, will be in the wrong place in the wrong moment.
brave men and women of the R.N.l.I are the people who come to this moment.
Respect them, they are awesome
At present i personally am flying a tv drone over Kynance Cove near Lizard Point Cornwall....its mid january 2025...the sea state is 4-6 foot waves....on one hand my view is majestical...huge sea stacks, waves crashing onto cliffs and granite reefs, on the other hand 10 feet before me is a cliffs edge with big fissures in the soil, ready to landslide....it is a stark remindernto me of the potential dangers near the southbwest coastal path....staggeringly beaitiful, raw, wild, yet always in command.
This is my ode to the R.N.L.I
Some of the bravest men and women in existence.
Un-selfishely, at all times, and at all costs, do this for
US.
Do support them.

Some hart warming stories of bravery. I have said it before however, I will say it again. Every time I'm in the sea in my kayak I always know the brave men and women of the RNLI are only a call away if needed. So if you ever walk passed an RNLI station and see the guys about say hello to show them you appreciate them.

Saving Lives at Sea is one of my favourite documentaries. Never missed a series and Steven Mackintosh is the perfect narrator.

If you were trying to sell the latest fashion jeans wouldn’t direct your advertising towards pensioners, so maybe you should think about directly your money grabs at the people who use you the most.

Excellent work and absolutely nothing but admiration. It's a travesty this wonderful selfless charity still has no government funding or consideration given to being the fourth emergency service. Especially for an island to which were surrounded by the sea.
