Grateful that I have the opportunity to share this with all of you! Thank you to the Stanford Accelerator of Learning, the GSE, Professor Piech, Joe Tey, and everyone around me for showing me what it truly means to care about learning.

This video has given me a new perspective on education. The chaos around us has forced us to undermine the very concept of education- especially here in India-. Truly spectacular Shaurya! I have followed you for the last 3 years, and have seen you grow into what you are today. This may sound awkward, but I really look up to you. Thanks for this video. I think I know what I have to do.

Hey Shaurya! You probably won't come across this, but I sincerely need to thank you for this YouTube channel.

It's past 1 a.m. My EA applications are shaping up. I'm obsessively working on my essays as J. Cole's lyrics in the background keep me awake. I've come a long way in the last two years in terms of my academics and extracurriculars, all initially aiming to be accepted to my dream universities. However, instead of merely yearning for a bunch of acceptance letters, I have fallen in love with the process of growing and learning. Your YouTube channel and the SDD essay writing course have inspired me throughout this journey.

Thank you for everything! I hope to inspire people the way you do and add value to their lives in any way I can. I don't know where I'll end up going to university but I know for sure that I'll make the best use of the environment I find myself in, about a year from now. Next Stop: University.

Hi Shaurya! It's wonderful to see you're having a blast at Stanford! It's always a delight to see your videos because they help me find my lost zeal and enthusiasm towards exploring more. I too agree that I've learned the most when I've employed all I know to create something from scratch for it really shows me the extent of my abilities. When we talk about education, especially primary education, we ignore the fact that children have instincts of their own to take unique approaches towards everything which is killed when the education focuses on feeding information rather than enhancing the abilities and quirks that the children already have. It is meant to help them sharpen their own unique approaches and not make it disappear, which ironically, it does. I really really want to explore the ways to improve primary education models. My thoughts on education won't fit in a comment section because I have a LOT to say. Hopefully I'll get to collaborate with you sometime and have a full fledged discussion. Good luck to you on your quest to establish your dreams! And thank you so much for taking out time to post on YouTube, you're the best!!

It's a privilege to watch this, honestly if you could make videos sharing more of these 'insights' it would be amazing as it brings out ambition and creativity among a lot of us

Great video Shaurya!
Education is really important as well. As an undergrad and an independent researcher myself, it's very important to raise awareness and highlight the lack of access to education.

Shaurya, you have always been the person I look up to. Your videos have encouraged me to go the extra mile. Thank you for being a guide throughout my school days.

Your words made me realize the spark I have been finding in myself. Even after 7 rejections, I am optimistic. My abilities and potential to do so much more than I could imagine. Life is really about gaining knowledge from individuals, which is more beautiful and encouraging than your grades. I really hope to meet you and talk a lot with you; cause why not you're one of the greatest minds!

your theory of education as "the exponent" resonates with me at soo many levels!
coming from a monotonous Asian regime, where we chase college labels to become the most sought-after 'employee'. But for me, education has always always been about experiences, perspectives and an all-rounded development. the most unnecessary of facts, shortest of curiosities, being relevant even before the forthcoming! is all what adds up to the bigger picture.
also, probable grammar mistakes are proof, that this was not written by chatGPT

Disclaimer: I haven't actually studied AI, so please correct me if I said anything incorrect.

Regarding AI in particular--as an art hobbyist, both the "inspiration" and "demotivation" arguments make sense to me. Generative AI, having pulled high-quality data from human creations, could potentially set a higher standard of quality to inspire our inventions to advance even further. Or, it could demotivate those who lack the prerequisite knowledge and insight to grasp that inspiration.

In that sense, these advanced generative AI models are sort of like blackbox prodigies--they can make some really cool stuff, but if you ask them why or how they made the specific choices they made, they would be unlikely to actually explain it to you like a teacher could. For example, if you ask it to write a rhetorical essay for a specific prompt, and then ask it to explain all of its writing choices within the outputted essay, I imagine it wouldn't do so well. (If I'm wrong about that, then here's a more straightforward example: if you ask Midjourney to make you some art, it literally can't provide any commentary regarding its decisions within that art.)

The AI's learning process, taking place outside of the human brain, can only analyze the surface level, while actual human thought processes involve underlying intent. So even if AI can take the results of those human thought processes to create something amazing, it would struggle to explain those creations (at least for now). This could demotivate people who lack the necessary competence/confidence to learn independently from those AI creations.

However, more worrying (at least to me, other artists, and many apparently "replaceable" workers) are the corporate implications of this, which were also mentioned in the video.
