Originally from Senegal, Oumar Diouf discovered the tastes of home during his travels in Brazil. When an injury ended his career as a soccer player, he set out on a culinary journey to understand the history and communion of these two cultures. Today, he celebrates Senegalese and Afro-Latino fusion with the vibrant food he serves at his Oakland restaurant and food truck, The Damel.

Restaurant owners invite us into their kitchens to share personal experiences, signature dishes, and fresh takes on comfort food. Viewers also get a first-hand look at how restaurants persevere through the unprecedented hardships brought on by the pandemic. These stories explore the vulnerability of opening a restaurant as an immigrant and the risks and rewards of introducing unique flavors into a Western community.
