City of Gastonia Historic Districts

Two of Gastonia’s noteworthy older neighborhoods have been officially designated as local Historic Districts. The York-Chester and Brookwood neighborhoods each have unique histories and contribute to Gastonia’s character and charm.

The City of Gastonia’s Historic District Commission works with property owners in the two districts to ensure that development and renovation are consistent with the neighborhoods’ distinctive styles. Any changes made to the exterior of a property in a local historic district requires a review by Gastonia’s Historic District Commission.
