I've had 20 plus setters in my life and known the breed for more than 60 years, they are very special!
Mine have all been working dogs and have been the most important coworkers of my life! I have Popsie now, 19 months and love of my life!

I've been around or had English Setters since I was a kid absolutely wonderful dogs so very intelligent tons of personality great with kids usually good with other animals but they seriously need so much exercise to be happy if you can't commit to lots of exercise daily or at least a huge yard and daily walks might not be a good fit that's why as I'm getting older and have issues I won't have another English Setter RIP Haley Sally and Toby

My little setter is 12 years old. Initially, she was a hunting dog, bred for her great nose, which she has in spades. But the risk of losing her to a coyote or car collision was too much to bare so I retired her early. She's been the sweetest companion imaginable. Words can not describe how much I love this dog! Setters are "soft" psychologically and require a gentle hand. Being hunting dogs bred with purpose, they are not the "smartest" canines, but they are loyal, gentle, and beautiful.
