Quite a long time ago I got into the habit of listening to Bach with the scores in front of me. It's a lost habit, but this video has shown me again (in a very visual way) how interesting it is to do that. This New York choir is a reference that I unfortunately listen to infrequently. Do Not Fear, a Bach motet double chorus written for the funeral of the wife of City Councilor Winkler, February 4, 1726.
Bach wrote 6 double chorus motets during his life that are known. I have requested 3 of the six, all six of which I sang. They are all meant to be performed acappela. Another one of the motets is coming soon, performed by Voces8. It shows how they are meant to be performed, with 2 choirs in an arc in front of the hall, with the 2 choirs separated.by a small amount. They represent some of the most difficult choral music to perform. I could have waited for this one to be shared, but I couldn't resist the unique manuscript!
