You can also just get the diamonds of 4 great hogs on the first level. Even though it says it's locked, it actually isn't.

I got it early yesterday killing great hogs. After I gave away my diamonds from killing the hogs to help others get it early. At the time most didn't realize they could do this.

I literally mined 9 stacks of diamond and 13 stacks of gold worth of 28 000 emeralds. I have found that the best way to get emeralds are to mine gold and when there are diamonds mine them too
Diamond is worth 14 emeralds. Gold is worth 12 emeralds. Lapis is worth 2 emeralds, but most time you will get 2-3 ores.
