I had a parent come up to have a meeting about their child’s math paper. The dad was mad because he never uses rounding in the real world and his son shouldn’t have to learn how to do it! He needed an excuse because his kid kept failing rounding assignments!

I’m a boomer. What is rounding? First I’ve heard of it. I’m pre-calculator. I used a slide rule in high school. Too many numbers, ok.😒 Oh, public math? Had a calculus teacher in high school who would purposely do problems wrong to see if we could catch it. It was very early in the semester. We hadn’t learned it yet. Even the 4.0 kids were frustrated. We got a a substitute; young guy. He was a dream. We asked so many questions. That was the best math class. Hope he enjoyed it.

What is “public math”? And I’m also surprised there are lessons about rounding these days. It’s good to know how for mental math but everyone has a calculator now on their phones

The paper wasn't good enough quality, eh? Boy, I'd hate to see that parent go up to her kid's principal on graduation day and say "Um, excuse me. But my kid's diploma deserves WAY BETTER QUALITY PAPER than this!"
