I've also been in a reading slump. Thanks for the list! I can't wait to check these out.

Although not a novella, I always recommend Harlan Ellison's _Deathbird Stories_ (1975) a short story compilation. One of my favorite authors, Harlan wrote mostly short stories and non-fiction/sociopolitical critiques. Early on he wrote for television (Star Trek) and penned a few novels along the way. The overarching thematic subject of the work in Deathbird Stories are of things that people have inadvertently made into modern day deities which have replaced the old gods.

I loved gone to see the river man! I read it last month and it helped me break a slump for sure, I was super invested. I wanted to share it with everyone but it’s also one of those books that super hard to recommend because of the disturbing content!

I haven't read too many horror novellas but these sound really good. I was in a reading slump, but I decided to finally read IT and The Exorcist. Amazing books, totally got me out of the slump. Guess it only takes one good story to get reading again. Read even more since those two.

I recommend Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. It's so visceral. I felt like I was in 1915 Macon fighting monsters.

I picked up Below based on your recommendation. Looking forward to it.

As for novellas, I’d recommend The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. It’s the novella that the Hellraiser movie was based on. Although, you’ve probably already read it. It’s been around a while.

Woom is one I've seen recommended on various groups but have never given it a one almost makes me interested lol, still might be a bit too extreme for my tastes.

I'm finding disturbing horror novellas are easy to get through recently too. Below was really intriguing in the Mothman mythology. Other two I read recently are Waif and The Reyes Incident.

Loving the Horror novella content! I so need to pick up "Below". And yes, "Laws of Skies" is just one of the best and most unique WTF books out there.
Not sure what you might have read but some I have loved in recent years: "We Need to Do Something" by Max Booth III/ "Come Closer" by Sara Gran/ "The Murders of Molly Southbourne" by Tade Thompson/ "Sweet Story by Carlton Mellick III (I think generally you might like Mellick's stuff, he has a lot that is short)/ "Night of the Mannequins" by Stephen Graham Jones. And if you want just a few pages, I think you can find "Ponies" by Kij Johnson online somewhere. One of the next novellas on my TBR is "And then I woke up" by Malcolm Devlin but of course I cannot vouch for it as of yet!

Below is currently my favorite read of the year. I'd recommend "Saint's Blood" by Ryan Bradley and "The World Below" by David Peak.

Keep seeing you mention "the Descent" in videos. Do you mean the movie or the book by Jeff Long? The book is a highly recommended, must read, scary subterranean thriller that was out years before the movie. Not a short book and has alot going on, so be prepared not to rush through it.
