Yes it's amazing. Even more amazing that the animals also instinctively picked up on this too. One human example, is when you are on a swing and you would like to stop swinging, you can make a series of 'coherent incoherent' pumps with your legs to bring you to a rapid stop. The reverse of pumping with the legs to build up a swing

Just to clearify: Mass itself does not add damping to any sysyem. In this building, ball is connected to the building by numerous damper cylinders. Mass only changes natural frequency distrubution. In the example system, friction between moving parts and hysteric damping caused by material itself was damped the system.
