Dosa ia south Indian food, butter chicken is North Indian food. North Indian food is what you see in the west, south Indian food doesn't have the same mainstream appeal or acknowledgment. Both are great cuisines, but there's a reason why majority of the world will prefer the North Indian style. It has a heavy Mughali influence and relies on meat such as chicken, goat, lamb, and some seafood, and the regions produces great wheat which makes North India famous for naans. With the heavy meat and fish reliance, it produces great dishes like butter chicken, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab, tandoori king prawns, Amritsari fish, shashliks, etc. Some of the best curries in the world come from the North such as the bhuna, jalfrezi, and roganjosh. On the opposite side, south Indian food is more about the fish, seafood, vegetables and heavy on the carbs, and uses coconut as a heavy influence.

Indian food varies so much by the region. For me, it's in the top five cuisines of all time, all regions welcome to this palate. The aromatics, the huge array of spices and ranges of heat, the finishing sauces and chutneys, too many things to mention.... Oyyyy, it truly makes me swoon.

Tiffin is just a mixed meal with various options. The soup they gave you was meant to have the dosa dipped in it. Its called sambar. The dessert is made from semolina, not yams.

'tiffin' doesn't sound hindi because it's a British English word, and also chennai and this food are in south India, specifically Tamil Nadu, where they don't speak Hindi, they speak Tamil, which is unrelated.
