One of the things other people have said is that despite the dressing this is primarily a puzzle Euro game, less of an adventure thematic game. I think that's where some of the issues are people have. Elements of it remind me of Ghost Stories in the fact it's a puzzle to solve.

I really hate the term "puzzle" when people talk about this game, because it suggests there's only one way to win each Legend, which is simply not true.

The problem is that a lot of people never really learn the deeper, more intricate connections between the rules, characters, legend and board, and so they never really see any strategy except "kill monsters".

The game is about balance, precision, economy, and making tough, surgical decisions while making a last stand. In many ways, it reminds me Darkest Night, another game that a lot of people get wrong because they fail to appreciate the game's more intricate depth.

Don't get me wrong: I love any good dungeon crawling "dice-chucker", like any other Amerithrash-loving gamer ... but Legends of Andor is not that kind of game.

Andor is great because of its differences; it's not exactly a "euro" game, and it's not exactly a dice-chucking RPG either. It has its own challenges and/or appeal, but to really appreciate it, you need to spend more time with it. I know, because, like this review, I disliked Andor for all the same reasons. Now, however, after having played it many more times, it's one of my favorite games.
