The emperor gave the “you are a hero but now you have to leave” treatment.

Their leg armor didnt have anything powering it yet they were able to run with it. Imagine the strength they have

Big E could've just throw them in the meat grinder of war on some xeno planet instead of just wasting, from the Emperor vision, very good meat shields
I mean he did the same with Agron. Instead of granting him at peace, at least (not gonna go into this discusion)
And it just seams like a waste of a project, you could at least use them as some sort of last resort wepon. Put them in stasys and let them loose when you know that the guard is not enough and Angels will not arrive

You know what really bothers me. Big E could have fixed the genetic problems but he chose instead to make a weaker batch of soldiers instead of fixing the Thunder Warriors. And it wasn't like it couldn't have been achieved. Cause guess what! One of the escaped Thunder Warriors called Arik Taranis actually discovered that the Emperor WAS THE ONE WHO PURPOSELY MADE THEM HAVE GENETIC FLAWS!!! Dude, managed to correct it and even supposedly made more Thunder Warriors in secret after he realized the Emperor intentionally sabotaged them. Do you realize how psychopathic the Emperor is for doing that?!

"tools for war, not peace" is so fckn cold.

yet many of the survivors proved the resilience of the Thunder Warriors, having lived far longer than intended. Some were broken, some were crazy, but most seemed to be pretty stable for being well past 'expiration'

This is what happens when you make a really cool group concept, (really cool armor, etc.) then strictly relegate them to the background lore and keep from being apart of the main story.

You get people kinda wishing to see them being both playable and back into the main/modern lore.

What kills me is that Endryd Haar was (very strongly alluded to be) a Thunder Warrior / Space Marine hybrid. Implanting him with the stable gene seed of the War Hounds fixed all the defects of the Thunder Warriors.

We learn that Space Marines are much easier to create en masse than Thunder Warriors were, hence why they were all caught off guard by the number of Marines they faced at Mount Ararat.

However, we know Thunder Warriors were much easier to produce than Custodes with whom the Thunder Warriors were a much closer match to in melee combat than Space Marines.

All this leads me to my main issue with the Thunder Warriors outright obliteration. If they can be produced in much greater numbers than Custodes, can be cured of all their defects, and are a much stronger force than Astartes, why not make them another arm of the Talons of the Emperor?

As for where they’d serve within that role, I could easily see them serving as the “Baseline infantry” if you could even call them that, for the Custodes. Or if the concern is that they’re too aggressive, why not stockpile them all in stasis to have a fail safe weapon in case of emergencies?

The Great Crusade lasted ~200 years and during the Unification Wars we know the Emperor had at least 20, 000 Thunder Warriors by the Battle of Mount Ararat. It wouldn’t surprise me, given how gene seed production ramped up as the Crusade went on, if the Emperor could’ve raised half a Legion of Thunder Warriors by the end of the Great Crusade.

In such a scenario, especially if their presence was concealed, I could only imagine the devastation and confusion unleashing such a force upon the Traitor Legions would have caused. It would be on par with deploying 50, 000 Veteran Primaris Marines upon the Traitor Legions with only early Chaos empowerment to fight back with.

Its crazy how such flawed creations massacred marines and custodes alike

I get the whole they had to be put down because they were flawed argument and many thunder warriors willingly died and did not resist. The issue is Arik Taranis a surviving thunder warrior who was intelligent enough to remedy his flaws and keep himself alive found out THE EMPEROR PURPOSELY GAVE THE THUNDER WARRIORS THEIR FLAWS.

If he gave it to them he could have fixed it and if not eversors are a thing so freeze them in stasis and drop them deep in enemy territory to watch the madness unfold. Emperor did the same thing with the space marines he loved giving his creations weird flaws.

Hell its not like the space marines were any better the warhounds got the nails then became the world eaters which were worse than the thunder warriors, the blood angels used to be known as the revenant legion due to their savagery and cannibalism, and the night lords were the worst of the worst. So there has to be something deeper I hope GW expands on it

Had the Emperor finished his webway project, the space marines would have experienced their own "thunder warrior incident".

There's a scene where they get possessed by psykers on Terra, causing atrocities.

Wasn't there a world eater who was larger than most spacemarines even by salamanders standards who talked about brothers before the world eaters and warhounds and i believe he was a thunder warrior

The surviving Thunder Warriors should've paid a good lawyer to take The Emperor to court. I'm sure they could've retired on disability benefits.

Honestly i'm with big E on this one. How easy would it be for Khorne to corrupt such warriors ? You could certainly "fix them" but the Emperor never underestimated the power of culture and it would be better to create new troops. They had a purpose which they accomplished and it would be too dangerous to simply leave them be as a Christmas gift for khorne

As we constantly see throughout the whole of 40k, the emporer is the architect of his own failure

He could’ve just sent them to a world for an actual last stand, instead of wasting them.

Well he couldn’t because he killed them before starting the great crusade to the stars because after the unification wars, on earth, he didn’t need them anymore and needed to make better soldiers who’s organs don’t die after 3 years

It’s not their fault you made them that way
