Taking the creation account literally is really stupid. If the creation account was literal, the # of verses would fill a library. The creation account gives the broad strokes of what god did over untold amounts of time. Even the numbering of days isn't literal, but just words humans can understand to convey the idea that god created the earth and life on it over a period of time, and that the 7th, his day of rest, will end and he will once again work on making the earth a perfect place for humans to live.
