SONY A6400 | How To Get Perfect Focus On Your Camera Every Time
With todays cameras auto focusing systems being so fast and reliable. when they don't focus on what we require, it can really throw us.
I relied solely on the cameras auto focusing system for years, just willing to accept, that at times it just wouldn't focus on what I needed it too.
The little focus wizard built into every camera would just have off days.
Days where he just wouldn't focus on what I needed him too.
He would find some random object in the scene to focus on and ruin the whole shot!
I keep running into situations where this would happen, so I was forced to start learning techniques to get what I wanted in focus, in focus.
Its been a journey, years in fact.
Constantly trying new methods and techniques to find what works and what doesn't.
not just for photography but also filmmaking and videography.
I Now have a method I rely on, and it works. A combination of Auto Focus, Manual Focus and Peaking assist.
SO sit back enjoy the video and then go try it out!

97% of viewers are not subscribed to my channel which means YouTube doesn't recommend my channel for future viewing. Please consider subscribing, it shows me you are interested in my content and drives me to produce more videos . Thank you all!
*NOTE: The Focus PEAKING shown in the video is a gauge to highlight high contrast areas in your image, and thus what "most" likely is in focus. As shown in the video, areas can still be highlighted by the cameras PEAKING display if they show high levels of contrast, even though they may not be in focus. For example: Where Trees meet the sky etc. (high contrast area).
This is why I always start out by letting the camera "auto focus" first before switching to manual focus.
It gives you a good starting point to see where the peaking is highlighting.
But it is important to practice and understand how peaking works to get the best out of it.
I hope you enjoy, and any questions please comment below.

Try DMI. A more old school feel to the focusing approach. It's an easy process for exactly what you want no switching just a natural use of the focus ring which gets magnified as much as you preset for your application. NB in the "A" mode, I use A maximizing my lens choice.

I'm an absolute beginner (and middle aged man with limited patience). I have a new SONY alpha 6400 with 18-135mm AF lens. I'd like to know how — without fussing with menu settings — to quickly switch back and forth between AF to manual focus. Is there a single external ON/OFF switch versus faffing with custom buttons, etc ? (I see the lens has an AF | MF switch on the side but that doesn't seem to do anything.)

great video! yet it is important to mention that the manual focus assistant need to be turned off for this. Also it wouldn't work whenever there is a moving subject.

So I am an amateur who uses video mode primarily, and was zooming in all the way to be able to verify my videos would be in focus after finishing the recording. However, I didn't realize that is an invitation for dust on the sensor. Now I finally realize photo mode automatically gives a close up view to focus and it carries over to video mode, which I didn't think was the case. Sensor cleaning is not cheap! I was too nervous to knock it out of alignment by doing it myself.

When I use this technique when I adjust the focus ring the camera zooms in?

i guess it works for those lense that doesn't have AF option . i tried on my lens with AF on, and it automatically chooses the most red spots on the screen .
