"Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker cast doubt on the theory of evolution in recent remarks, saying the fact that apes and humans coexist disproves accepted science.

“At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not? ... If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it,” Walker said in an appearance at Sugar Hill Church in Georgia on Sunday.

“Now you’re getting too smart for us, Herschel,” lead pastor Chuck Allen responded.

Walker is currently the front-runner in the GOP contest to challenge Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in November. He’s a former NFL star who has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, and he’s outspoken about his Christian faith.

Walker is hardly the first GOP candidate who has run for office questioning evolution."

It's terrifying that someone running for public office can say this fully thinking they are making a real point. It's terrifying because it shows he didn't do any research and is happy to go with whatever someone tells him regardless if it is true or not. There needs to be some sort of test before people are allowed to run for office

It's not just ignorance, John; it's WILLFUL ignorance. If Walker actually cared about what is true and accurate, he could have EASILY learned the correct answer to that question at some point in his life.

Actually, humans are apes. We just didn't descend from any of the other existing ape species. They're like our distant cousins, while other human species were our ancestors and/or our cousins. And we all share a common ancestor (like great great great...great grandparents).

Evolution doesn’t replace one thing with another on the same day like people think. We are apes. We took a different evolutionary path than gorillas, chimps, etc. Different evolutionary pressures caused us to change in certain ways. Other apes did the same. Evolution has no end point in mind. It’s not a thinking, planning thing. It’s a natural process that occurs blindly and without intention.
