Thanks for this series of videos - much appreciated. I have one of these in the stash so it was great to see it progress and see that it was generally a trouble-free build.

Excellent build so far, can't wait to see the completed loco, looks as if it will be a fantastic model to add to your HUGE diorama

looking good Simon. From the front: smoke stack, sand box, steam dome. I'm not sure what the thing is behind the steam dome, maybe a whistle and the relief valve. Sand is fed via hoses to the front of each driver to give them traction at very slow speeds. Without the sand the wheels would just spin. Steam dome is where the steam comes out of the boiler and is fed in to pipes going to the steam cylinders.

The copper and brass look nice but I don’t think copper and brass would hold up to the heat and pressure steam would put them under. They would use iron piping, and it would be painted the same color as the rest of the compartment.

I know this video is a couple years old but I really enjoy your videos, also do you have any plans of building the 1/35 Leopold railway gun?

Looking good Simon, I wouldn't leave any shines brass personally as I think it was all painted over, but I haven't got to look at it every day. Where is this dio going as your shed is tiny

17:24 part C45 - that is a sand hopper, fine jets of sand were sprayed under the driving wheels to aid in traction when the locomotive started to roll.

BR 52 or Kriegslokomotive (War loco). Please dont use those ridiculous looking smoke deflectors on the sides of the smokebox. I have never seen one with anything even close to them. Leave em off!
