I just assumed all animals dream and have emotional experiences - as a kid our family had dogs and it was clear they felt every emotion in the book - they would cycle through them all every 15 minutes or so - I don't have a dog right now, but I have to visit my Mum and play with her dog otherwise it seems to get depressed and withdrawn if I don't visit at least once every few days - my Mum doesn't seem to be bothered either way.

i had to teach my dog dreaming because she started having nightmares after she was attacked by another dog and would always wake up barking or whining. when i say dreaming she usually settles down if she thought someone was at the door or was scared.

My two dogs are brothers from the same litter, both are old now, VERY old, near the end of their life old, but one of them is happy go lucky, wags his tale at the first sound, smell or sight of pretty much anything, happy all the time. The other will just lay there all day doing nothing, never any excitement from him, ever. I have treated them their entire lives the exact same. One loves life, the other, well he does not love it so much. It doesn't matter though, I love them both no matter how they feel.

My dog once had a nightmare - we had brought him to the vet to get his vaccines, and took a nap when we got home. He was sound asleep when he jumped up and starting swinging his paws and trying to get away from something in the dream

My dog is a sleep walker. I sleep on 2 mattresses not a proper bed and one time while he was sleeping on my bed (like normal) he got up with his eyes shut and yelped when he fell down the 50cm fall. My dog is an English Pointer and that fall is about 2/3 his height. He was freaking out afterwards and I had to sit with him on the floor for a while. His name is also Geoff so you know he has to be cute.

I have a toy poodle and a shiz tzu, my Shiz Tzu sometimes Yelps while she's sleeping and it makes me think that she may be having a nightmare because it's the exact same noise she makes when she is scared or got hurt

My dog started chirping and growling during her sleep last night. It was pretty fascinating to see!

My pet canary occasionally lets out a sudden chirp while he's sleeping, and even woke up twice in the middle of the night and started flying around the (dark) room as if startled by some big animal or something. It's very consistent with him dreaming (and having song rehearsals and nightmares), which I find extra interesting because it shows that it's now just mammals who dream.
