The new Suzuki 4hp, 5hp and 6hp models (DF4A/5A/6A) are lightweight (starting at only 24kg) and portable as well as being easy and quiet to use. They also benefit from a 3-way storage capability which means that they can be stored on any of three sides (port, starboard or front) without the worry of fuel or oil leakage.

3 way storage is a big plus. Mounting a 25KG motor on a dingy in the water is pretty risky, one wrong move and overboard it goes. Better mount it on land and push the boat in afterwards.

For 2 kgs more you can have a 9.8 Tohatsu :) 2 stroke that makes my 3.4 mtr rib fly 2 up with dog

I keep reading that it is very easy to convert a 4hp to 5 or 6hp--so why do they even MAKE a 4 or 5hp? What advantage is gained by having less hp? Is it weight--but if it is, why do they say that for 4, 5 and 6 "they are all the same specs--other than restrictors to keep the hp down"?

Any advertising is always deceit. I had a Russian outboard engine for a long time several decades ago where stop button was conveniently located on the end of the helm under thumb, but here it is located on the engine itself therefore while maneuvering near the shore I have to look back to push that button. As I am used to mentioned convenience, absence of the button in the right place is very irritating. While using this engine I lost the propeller when the pin that secures the nut on the propeller shaft fell off. The nut has write thread therefore it unscrewed by itself after loosing the pin. If the nut had wrong thread as it should be, then it would even more tightened after loosing the pin. Double gasoline union is another defect of the design. I have to watch carefully how to connect the hose to the engine. There are convenient single unions used on gas tanks, why not to use the same on the engine? However forward/back switch is the worst. It does not have any fixation in the middle position therefore it is easy accidentally switch from forward to back or vers versa without neutral, which potentially very dangerous for sailing and to the motor itself. I am very disappointed in this motor, which is a witness of technical ignorance and illiteracy of the designers. Some say that other outboard engines are even worse, but it is not excuse for these Suzuki’s morons.
