I just discovered the best time to watch these little gems is later in the evening, in a room with low light, on a device with a larger (than smaller) screen.

It's like Hugh is right here, with me, telling me his story, and showing me his B&W photos.

Then, I just discovered the VERY best way to watch these little gems, is to take time for a second viewing in the same session as the first viewing. This allows for an even better absorption of his message and an even deeper appreciation of how the Medium is part of THIS message.

Wow. And thanks

I can't get over your approach to camera reviews and first looks. You're graced with charisma and your takes are perspective altering and you bring up the most compelling arguments for viewers to consider in most scenarios when trying to make a decision! 🙏

So glad you made the comment about the X-Pro 4… That’s what I’ve been waiting for. Hope they do it justice. Great video once again, Hugh!

Great first thoughts Hugh! Ticks the boxes I want - Photography first, IBIS, smaller/lighter and with more then enough tech tools, though I'm sure I will lock into only about 30% of them in normal days to day use. Love the click/programmable dials too! My X-T1 has been phenomenal, but I think it's time to move forward with this one!

Wholeheartedly agree. I feel the X-T5 is a great step in the right direction for photography, but the bold step for Xpro 4 to be photography only like you mentioned, then indeed it would be a game changer to show the commitment to photographers. No HDMI, no microphone inputs, no video options, similar to what we see in the digital Leicas and in the latest Hasselblad.

If that is ever made, then that would be the only reason for me to trade in my ever dear X100V.

Fantastic video and insights as always!

Thank you for the input, I am beyond confused as to how FujiFilm expects one to evaluate a camera for 1hr, it’s simply does not compute.

I’m here for the jazz and photos.
And the awesome camera.
And Hugh’s take.

But jazz.

One thing I like about the X-T4 screen is the ability to flip it right down and turn the screen in to face the camera. Cheap X-Pro hack. This is how mine spends most of its time. If I really need to chimp I can use the playback in the EVF without taking my eye away, and be back to image making in seconds.

This method is particularly advantageous working in theatre where chimping with the screen lets out a lot of light. Chimping in the EVF is imperceptible.

Good news about this release for me is a second X-T4 (either used or new) might come my way cheaper.

Thanks, Hugh, for advocating an X-E5 and X-Pro4 with IBIS.

Jump in resolution to 40mpx and IBIS together are a reason to add an X-E5 to my X-E3.

Both your technical reviews and personal reflections on photographic equipment is for me, one of the great guiding lights through the hype and bullshit floating in and around the camera industry toward us consumers. Thank you for great work, and a good measure of integrity . Best from Ireland.

Always love your take on Fuji’s cameras Hugh. Used to have a Fuji XT3 before the pandemic(regrettably sold it when it kicked off as I used it mainly for travel). The thing was a dream for photos and I never used the thing much for video, I’m just a stills kind of guy. And I must admit, hearing its smaller, improves the grip and gets great IBIS might just draw this guy back into the Fuji zen garden.

Hugh - I loved your comments on the X-Pro line and agree wholeheartedly.

First time I've ever heard someone suggest that cameras could be usefully smaller and less complicated without all the guts needed to provide Hollywood-grade video capabilities. Bravo.

I’m delighted this came out, it enabled me to get a great deal on an X-T4 on eBay.

I agree wholeheartedly about the potential of the X-Pro as an exciting and unique photo-centric camera. I’ve been waiting for them to get this right since the X-Pro 2. Which for me, still cuts it. It just needs improvements in the viewfinder, sensor and processor. Fingers crossed eh?

Ordered a x-t5 earlier today. As a street photographer, I’m extremely excited to get my hands on it. Coming from the xpro2, the improved auto focus is welcomed as well as the speed. Also, as a hybrid shooter, the video specs are exactly what I need. And the Xt3 like screen is perfect.
This is my 5th Fuji camera and I never had a problem with the menu system. It well organized, I suppose. But more so, my goal is to set up the camera so my dive into the menu almost doesn’t happen.

XT5 is a compelling package albeit rather expensive here in Australia (more or less same price at launch as Nikon Z6ii) - it’s a shame we’ve lost the hump from the XT1/2/3 and metering dial, I would have thought a photography centric camera wouldn’t need the still/movie dial. I guess we’ll have to wait for the XPro4 for those of us who do not care for video.

His delivery is smooth and rhythmic. His cadence is flawless and consistent. Honestly, he’d make a great rapper lol.

The only camera review channel worth watching. Real analysis, not just reeling off of specs as if they all that matters.
