Haven’t been watching this show for some time… but I knew Louis Cato as a drummer for John Scofield and Marcus Miller. I had no idea he could sing and play guitar, nor that he had taken over as the band leader for the Late Show.

Louis Cato’s vocals are off the chart! Why oh why have we not heard him sing until now?

Thank you, John Scofield. Amazing as always.

Thanks for taking the muzzle off Louis Cato and let us soak in his brilliance!!

If I could speak as well as John Scofield plays guitar….the phrasing on that guy is beyond anything.

I wish they would air this instead of the commercials

I met John Scofield on the sidewalk outside The Blue Note in NYC many years ago. My buddy who’d recently played with him introduced me to him as a “former pro” trumpet player.

John kindly and genuinely inquired why I’d given up the horn, (which I hadn’t, only making a living on it!).

Though he could have (certainly most would!) just blown by my pedestrian/uninteresting history, he paused to ask.

Now whenever I hear him play anything recorded before or after that brief encounter, it’s with different and more appreciative ears.

Oh. My. Gawd. Louis Cato, guitarist/singer/bandleader extraordinaire?! What I can't believe is that nobody in the comments section yet realizes what a blisteringly good drummer he is as well - everyone please check out old YT footage of him KILLING the drums in Scofield's Uberjam band as well as with bass god Marcus Miller (also when he had long hair :). What an amazing overall talent he is!!

Wow! Lot a talent on that stage. Good to hear them cut loose with such a legend. Outstanding jam!

This was phenomenal. Can you imagine going back to taping the show and not basking a little longer in the music that had just taken place? Stephen Colbert must have great taste, because from the beginning, his show has low-key fostered some of the best funk and jazz musicians of the day.

Fantastic how Cato’s playing works so well with Scofield. Yo, Colbert!!! We need more of this depth in the music and in your interview subjects. Please continue with your amazing ability to bring depth and silliness to your program. Cheers.
