Russell Wilson still can’t see over the middle of the field, he’s never been able to, and the Steelers offense is going to really start struggling soon. Because he can’t see the middle of the field, the Steelers have to run a very specific type of offense, and it’s an offense that can’t sustain over time. What happens when your Quarterback can’t see over the middle of the field? And what does this version of a Russell Wilson offense look like in 2024? This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 game film to analyze what happens when Russell Wilson can’t see over the middle of the field for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Do the Steelers have what it takes to win the Super Bowl?

That being said the last touchdown, on the last drive, of his last play, Wilson threw one right down the middle. If my memory serves me right.

Russell Wilson at week 14 in the NFL is now the number 1# quarterback with passes over ten yards or more.

Played great on Thursday. Made several big time throws down the middle of the field.

Russell Wilson in 5 games has thrown 9 TDs to guys he has never played with until weeks ago.
People forget 1 TD was called back because of a flag and another came off the board because Pickens didn't get that one foot down
Wilson is doing his job.

Russell Wilson wasn't the reason the Steelers lost. We get it people dont like Russ because he had one horrible season. He's still one of the best quarterbacks in the game.

All qbs in this league have their flaws. Utilizing the middle of the field has never been russ’s main game. This shouldn’t be conflated with the idea that he is incapable of doing so but that’s not where he’s at his best.

However, he is great outside the numbers, an efficient passer, a beast in the 4th quarter, and a STELLAR all time deep ball passer. This makes it so that he succeeds in a play action offense where he can take shots and get rolling throws to the sidelines.

Where my confusion comes in is why people believe that there is only ONE way to win in this league. Russ has already proven that he can win using his style of play. And for those who are going to point to the LOB news flash you NEED a good defense to win a championship (95% of the time). Tom Brady beat the Rams in the 2019 Super bowl scoring 13 points because his defense held them to a field goal. Von Miller and crew propped up the remains of Peyton Manning all season to win in 2016. Yet, we only criticize Russell because everyone was indoctrinated to believe that a qb should only play a particular way.

He’s a trailblazer, the first true modern day dual threat qb to win the super bowl, second black qb to win, and he’s 5’11. So criticize all you want, he’s a made man and a proven commodity in this league.

It's not "He'S tOo ShOrT, hE cAn'T SEE tHe MiDdLe". Drew Brees is barely any taller and he worked the middle like a wizard, which would imply he could SEE over the line just fine. It's that Russ is generally cautious and INT averse. He's an anti-gunslinger.
He doesn't look to throw over the middle because he prefers the generally safer throws closer to the sidelines. "Seeing" has little to do with it.

And then you bring in Fields at the end of a game and he fails. Ive never believed in situational Qbs. You need to throw and that guy isn't in rythem. IE last TNF

These facts will show you how stupid this article is.
Russell Wilson has thrown 341 career TD passes, 1 short of 12th all time and just 108 INTs, the 2nd best TD-INT ratio in NFL history.
So every TD must have been a MOON BALL huh?
Russell Wilson has a career 100 passing rating, 3rd best all time
So every pass must have avoided the middle of the field I guess?
Russell Wilson has a 64 percent completions for his career, Top 15 all time.
I guess he only throws deep or to the sidelines?
Russell Wilson has thrown a TD pass in 23 of the last 24 games, the best among all current starters, so every pass must have avoided the middle of the field?
I guess the TD pass to Austin wasn't the middle of the field?
The nitpicking about this guy is too hilarious.

I like how you waited until they lost a game to post this even though he had multiple middle of the field throws in their last two games 😂

Last year Russ was great in the red zone. So this is on Arthur Smith. Unnecessary Russ hate

I know its easy to talk ISH after losing to the Browns... But i said before even the Browns game that the Steelers offense is not Sustainable.

Throwing 50/50 balls to George Pickens all day is not a sustainable offense. The top offenses dont even do that. Eventually Teams will just double Pickens or start playing more "Zone and replace" concepts to stop those crossing routes like Miami defense does.

So once again I see the Steelers doing the same thing they always do. Make the first round of playoffs exit ... Repeat

I'm a broncos fan and have no ill will towards Russ, I thought he was always clowned on more than deserved (sure some, just not to the extent he got). But I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to go from two years of constant sacks into this season with Bo Nix who seems to have a camera installed into the back of his helmet that allows him to detect an incoming sack and get the hell out of it. It's been wonderful, I hope russ does well for you Steelers, but damn am I so happy to not be stuck in that situation any more. (at least y'all have fields to switch out to when it hits the fan)

Feels like you were holding on to this one until he lost lol.

He’s been doing much better than in Denver. And much much better than Steelers QB last year. He’s been able to drive the ball downfield, it’s been their performance in red zone that’s been awful.

I’m a Steelers fan and I’m thrilled with the improved roster and scheming compared to last year. A reasonable goal for this team is to win a playoff game. There’s no guarantee they’ll do it. But I think they’ve definitely shown enough improvement to prove that they’re capable of it.
