One of Neil’s best songs. I love how well the words and the music flow.

This is by far Neil’s best Album and this song is so good. It just has a very far away calming effect. He is a remarkable warrior over the “Decades” and I have enjoyed the ride for 50 years.

I don't know what inspired Neil to write these lyrics. After hearing this song over a period of years, I came to the real, that it was about me believing in me. Truly a very gifted artist

I am not quite sure if this is my all time favorite song or just my favorite Young song. All I know is that I am dying of a broken heart. My mom once told me of a woman who was her mothers friend who had lost her child and died shortly after that and my grandmother said she truly died from a broken heart. I think that is me. I thought I had my soul mate but after 30 years spent together and two sons and two grandchildren he decided to move on with someone half our age with two little kids. Nobody knows the heartache I am going through . I feel like I am all alone in this world. And I feel that I am not long for this world. This song just encapsulates me.

The simplicity of this song is both astounding and heartbreaking. My heart is aching tonight and I just want to be through with the pain.

I heard this album when it came out ....I was 12. Although I was from a professional musician family, my dad especially was a pure jazz guy and thought anything after 1950 was junk . So he wasn't very much into the folk scene . So on my 12th birthday, a school friend gave me this album and there began my lifelong love for Neil's music . I first learned Neil's songs remarkably fast compared to what my dad was trying to teach me . He was like "who is teaching you this ?" Like how could I do that . Then I was singing too and it blew Dad's mind . Anyway, he was a fine musician and I could have been one myself but that was the era of the "Generation Gap " so I just got into Neil, CSN, CSNY, Joni, Dylan ....met Bob once ...met Neil 3 x ..twice in Topanga and once here in Hawaii...He sold that house but it was just down the road from me ...the schoolmate who gave me the After The Goldrush album was a pure jock and I was a pure nerd hippie wannabe ...His name was Dick White of all things ! I said why are you giving me this record man ? He said because I beleive in you . How frikking weird is that ? I later found out he went gay but I don't care ....Call me Janis ..from down below !!! ha ha ...love to all

I've played this album continuously since 1970. Still sounds as good as ever-maybe even better given the current state of "music".

With this song, Neil certainly proved he can not only write a moving, emotive vocal melody, but can deliver it beautifully too. Who the says Neil can't sing?!
I'm not sure this song could raise the dead, exactly, but I imagine it could possibly awaken the heart, & bring waves of emotion, &  tears to eyes of the most zombified nodded-out junkie!
