"Learned the wrong lessons from COVID-19" couldn't have said it better myself

That's kinda how I felt from the layoff. Suites mass hiring because the business is booming, but then it fell off requiring massive layoffs because they failed to fully understand the unique situation that led to a booming ecosystem.

That and the fact that all of the delayed games are hitting at once and there's not enough time or money to go around and buy and play them all at once.

Sega America went through layoffs but it doesn't seem like Sega Japan did, in fact in general it doesn't feel like Japanese companies are having this problem which leads me to believe that this might go deeper and there's just something inherently wrong with how the Western games industry does business

It’s not fair to blame industry for the layoffs we forget what happened before the layoff. Remember, we were saddened by the layoff, but guess what had to happen before that? Someone had to get hired. We forget that in order to get laid off first you had to get picked up to do a job. Remember when those video game companies were hiring all of this extra talent where were the commentators then? Where were the video games journalist then? Everybody was in support of hiring more workers to the gaming industry. Everybody was nobody said don’t do this. This is a tragic mistake. Everybody said yes hire them and pay them more money. Now are complaining you are laying people off but where were the complaints about hiring people?

No this is not a mistake of the business. This is how businesses work the company saw an opportunity to make more money and they tried to do that because the market appeared to be expanding. Everyone thought the market was expanding not just video game companies, auto makers hired more labor because suddenly people were buying more cars especially rental car companies. Now all of a sudden you don’t need as many cars people get laid off should you blame the auto company for lame people off? If that’s the case, why didn’t you blame them for hiring people to begin with?

Are the gaming companies losing money, because if they are not, I’m not buying the idea they over hired or overextended anything.

Guy who does a videogame podcast knows more about hiring than highly accomplished CEOs who have studied business for decades.

Stop blaming covid and start blaming government.

Starfield wasn't overextending, Justice League wasn't overextending. Those are clearly cheap, lazy cash ins.

I blame gamers who demand AAA graphics which means studios need to hire 1000 developers.
