The tides are turning in Britain’s relationship with the European Union. Recent polls reveal that a majority of Brits now regret leaving the EU. But is rejoining even an option? In this video, we explore the growing sentiment for EU membership, the hurdles the UK would face to re-enter, and whether the EU would even welcome Britain back. Could Brexit be reversed, or is it too late for the UK to turn back the clock?

If the Scottish decide to become independent I’d be happy to welcome them back into the EU

The UK had a sweetheart deal and still told the EU to F-Off. Frankly the arrogance they projected was astounding.

If the EU ever decides to take them back it should be with no special privileges this time. They had their chance with the extra perks. The decided to leave. And the EU now understands the UK isn’t as important to the overall economy as once was believed.

The UK's relationship with the EU has been a trainwreck from day one.

They acted like a spoiled brat who wanted to be part of the cool kids' club but couldn't stand following the rules once they got in.

The government begged to join when they realized they were missing out on the economic party, but they never fully committed to the "European project."

Once in, they constantly whined, demanded special treatment, and acted like they were too good for the rest of Europe. They wanted all the benefits without any of the responsibilities.

UK politicians used the EU as a convenient scapegoat for decades, blaming Brussels for their own failures and feeding the public a steady diet of bullshit about straight bananas and other nonsense.

Meanwhile, the British public evidentally couldn't be arsed to actually learn how the EU worked, preferring to believe words on a red bus trundling around the country.

They swallowed tabloid lies and politician's bullshit hook, line, and sinker.

When things got tough, instead of working to reform the EU from within (where they had significant influence), the government helped by Farage threw a massive tantrum and decided to take their ball and go home.

The Brexit campaign was a shitshow of lies fueled by xenophobia and delusions of grandeur, led by opportunists who never thought they'd actually win.

Now the UK is out, the press media is still bitching about the EU, acting shocked that actions have consequences, and trying to blame everyone but themselves for the mess they've created.

It's like watching a never-ending episode of a really bad reality TV show.

Start with meeting the Copenhagen criteria then understand that there will be no rebates, accept Schengen and adopt the Euro.
Should keep UK busy for next 2 decades. . . .

I speak for myself and I hope my opinion is a popular one in Europe. Do we want the UK back? Right now no, not in the EU. There should not be any space in the EU for people who do not believe in the union ultimate political goals. The UK is actually interested in the single market and custom union; They are interested in the EU just because they feel too above everybody else to be rule takers ( which BTW is what they are now, rule takers of their own making ). Given the current political landscape, with China, the USA and the son of a lesser God, Russia's dictatorial and imperialistic goals, the EU needs to think about a common defence budget, procurement and chain of command structures as it will need to be able to stand alone, as the last bastion of the western world. With that in mind, at the moment, the UK is way more of a burden than an asset. We need to wait for time to take its course, let the "imperial old farts" in the UK pass away and wait for the new generation to come to a voting age before opening that door. Let's hope there will still be an EU to be protected by then, in the sense that it has not been invaded from East or from West.

Yes, but with conditions. No special treatment, and a shift in attitude. I don't care about your history, it is no consideration for the present, stop acting all superior.

Higher immigration while we were in the EU? It was nothing compared to after Brexit which more than doubled. However, at least we the Brits had the rights to freedom of movement in the EU when we claimed we had a higher EU immigration. Now we lost our freedom of movement to end up with a much higher immigration from the rest of the world, so what was the point of wasting time, energy and hundreds of billions to end up with a diminished economy by 5%, which is roughly £140 billion, £45 billion loss in tax revenues, a loss of our freedom of movement and a much higher immigration? Obviously, It's nothing but losses and all of this is because of English exceptionalism bullshit that doesn't pay the bills. My conclusion is that the Leave voters are brainless and I will never forgive them ever for putting us in this terrible mess with no future. Just tell me you leave voters, what was the point of Brexit???

We'll take Scotland. The rest needs an attitude adjustment

For the UK to rejoin they first need to accept that they are nothing special. Same deal as all others get, no exceptions. Might as well demand joining the Euro, driving on the right side of the road and full conversion to the metric system to rub it in that within the EU all are treated the same

Lots of EU member states are doing well since Brexit., and they are not about to give. It takes only one state to object and is game over very Britain.

Britons seem to continue to regard this question with tremendous egoism. As if the EU will just of course take them if they agree to come back.

The video makes passing reference to the accession criteria which an applicant member must satisfy before achieving such membership. This, rather than the issue of whether or not the UK is so arrogant as to believe that it can "unilaterally rejoin", is actually the real existential issue facing the UK, even if the country should ever resolve political and public will domestically to the point that an application to join becomes some government's actual policy.

However there is a complete (and alarming) absence of any evidence of any understanding among the people, the politicians or the media in the UK of what fulfilling these criteria actually means for the polity of the UK, or the huge extent of constitutional, political, societal and economic reform it would first have to undertake and complete before even an application could be made.

In each of these respects it is a basket-case polity, certainly one that fails almost every criterion imaginable for accession, and as long as it remains so, and as long as nobody in the country seems even to recognise this, then - however arrogantly unilateral an approach it may presume to take or not - the whole aspiration to "rejoin" within the UK is absolutely and irredeemably hypothetical and steeped in delusional fantasy.

The same delusional fantasy that saw it leave in the first place, in other words. The EU benefited enormously as a union once it was divested of such delusional fantasy within its institutions in the form of UK membership. It will never want to voluntarily recruit such an arrogantly deluded polity into its ranks ever again.

From Ireland I can tell you what the problem is … not sure if it can be fixed but here goes… UK & Ireland joined the EEC in 1973 together. At this time Irelands economy was entirely tied to the UK and the Irish pound was basically controlled from London. From the 1980’s starting with the Single European Treaty, the Irish started to have referendum on every EU treaty with huge public debate. We voted NO to two treaties Lisbon and Nice - after negotiations to make further changes (via protocols) we voted a second time and passed the treaties by referendum. The point is that we debated and changed our nation views on Europe over time. We understood the project and joined the ERM (uk left it) and the Euro currency (we joined). But because we kept voting and debating we avoided a ‘black or white’ referendum like Brexit. Unfortunately I think there is no way back to the EU without a huge open and honest debate and this could take a lot of time. The UK would have to join the Euro currency and probably commit to no more referendum for 40 years. I feel some of this is because there is no proportional representation voting at General Elections. Ireland uses PR with Single Transferable Vote (invented by an Englishman) and which we were forced to take as part of independence (& we love it). Also now when we have referendums, we have a citizen assembly to take expert testimony to assist a public understanding of the issues.

We (the EU) just don't want to talk about it anymore! Stop it! Assez! Basta! Aufhören!
We have our own problems and the UK is fortunately not one of them anymore.
The Brits voted brexit, they will have to live with it.

I think letting them rejoin would be a mistake. UK politics used the EU as a scapegoat for their internal problems, and I don't see why this time it would be different. That makes them fundamentally incompatible with the EU - it could only lead to headaches.
