the same people wanting to save these, will be the same people crying if these pests ever make it to California and destroy all of vineyard and wine. No more wine on Tuesday nights for Sally just cause she wanted to save the “pretty butterflies” 😂

Just a lil info about them. take it how u want:

Spotted lanternflies are originally found in China, Taiwan & Vietnam. They r invasive & can be spread long distances by ppl who move infested material or items containing egg masses.

If allowed to spread in the US, this pest could seriously impact the country's grape, orchard, AND logging industries. They r known to be particularly destructive to vineyards & fruit trees. Apperently they dont only go after grapes, they also like apple & peach trees specifically.

This insect has a kill-on-sight directive! Even though some of our local vineyards might not see the impacts on the insect yet, if the population continues to grow & spread, this could impact ur favorite wines, fruits, plants/trees & even how u live.

They attack more than 70 species of plants, including many ornamentally-planted species like rose, maple, & river birch. While they usually do not kill their hosts, they can weaken it through extended feeding & leave behind copious amounts of honeydew. Honeydew from these r sweet, sticky & messy. It contains large amounts of sugar which attracts scarier insects that r more harmful to humans like wasps, hornets, or Yellowjackets. It also can lead to the growth of black mold.

They will become a huge public nuisance as they continue to grow their population & spread. They aggregate in large #'s & everyone will start to loathe this insect.

Oh, I almost forgot: They could be harmful to your pets. There haven’t been any confirmed toxins in the insect, but some veterinarians have noticed that pets who have consumed one (ate one) have developed minor issues after swallowing them. Symptoms include drooling, loss of appetite, or a mild upset of their stomach.

Now I'm not an entomologist, so I don't understand everything about these pests or the environment. I'm only sharing what I've read.

They are just like cicadas. And they mostly feed on a invasive tree. Eventually birds will learn to eat them.

Most people don't know, but cats are non indigenous and invasive; they destroy bird and important rodent populations

They arent even slightly related to moths and butterflies

remember this comment during this august I WILL FIND A WAY TO NOT KILL IT I BELIEVE I CAN FARM THEM, don't you understand killing them is helping them thrive? What about spotted lanternflies in the trees. People aren't gonna climb trees to kill em. My point is you're rooting out weaker lanternflies and letting certain lanternflies thrive.
