This is absolutely horrendous. How this school gets away with potentially injuring their students without lawsuits is beyond me. 🤯 I appreciate your video, Josephine. I hope this helps to educate dancers and parents to make good choices in their training. And you do it in such a kind way. 💖

I'm in Reno and can't wait to be fitted by you once I'm cleared for pointe, which I'm hoping is soon. I'm 39 and trying to fulfill a childhood dream over here.

My 13 year old daughter is hard to fit, and was injured by a pointe shoe that was fitted incorrectly. The thousand dollars or so in physical therapy was a hard lesson that 1) we needed to seek out a dance store with a wider variety of shoes and 2) not to settle for whatever was in stock at the time. She was fitted in a Russian pointe that was too wide and too big because that’s all they had in stock at the time :(. Venturing to a larger city was the best thing we did to get her into a good fit with a Gaynor Minden.

Only having one shoe is lazy and honestly negligent. Dancers deserve better. I hope these dancers find a better studio because if they’re that negligent with pointe shoes, I worry what else they’re cutting corners on

I'm so glad you are there for these dancers.

I'd love to see you have a conversation with a rock climbing shoe fitter. The shoes are very different but seem to have some things in common (e.g. being able to "feel" the floor/wall). I'm curious what other comparisons could be made. :)

Wtf the studio's request is insane? Are they actively trying to hurt their dancers? Did the dancer get the studio's permission or did she quit?

After all the photos of the too short vamp, then seeing the photo at 2:44, wow, your work keeping dancers safe is SO important!
I've had similar issues with my foot trying to bend right in the middle of my metatarsals instead of at my arch. The right shoe is essential.

I’m not a dancer but even I could tell how bad those first shoes are. That second pair made her feet look beautiful and stable.

Also, some dancers might need different shoes at different points in their pointe career.

I started out in Bloch Heritage, which have a super short vamp and ended up in Grishko Nova, which have a fairly long vamp - both shoes were right for me when I got fitted in them.

The Heritage was a good starter shoe for me. I loved the rollthrough and didn't miss the stability, because I was mostly at the barre anyway, and my feet weren't as flexible, yet. Once I got off the barre, my needs changed and the Heritage was no longer the right shoe for me.

Now to find a non-Grishko shoe that fits my octopus feet ... Josephine, do you have any suggestions which non-russian shoe migth fit someone who wears Grishko Nova 7.5 H X?

Preferably even lower profile than the Nova, because I still have loads of room in these and I'm sinking if I don't use thick silicone padding.

Thank you Josephine for all you do. I noticed the book collection in the background. I, too, own The Ballet Book. Excellent book.

If you can't, bc your not feeling well physically or mentally, get well soon, and remember,
In the end it will be good
And if it isn't good, it's not the end

it hurt just looking at that dancer's feet. Josephine, you are a blessing to the ballet community. I hope you bring back more fitting videos. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I just love your interaction with dancers and learning about all the different shoes and feet.

Got my shoes today!! Just got back, and I’m super excited :} it’s been so many years in the making - a 2 year break, going to a new studio where we couldn’t go on pointe (teen ballet couldn’t for some reason), our class being cancelled over quarantine and being recommended to a new level last summer, missing the class this Monday where our teacher told the group they could get fitted, and today getting my shoes with permission from the teacher! We have our first class Monday, and I CANT WAIT!!

Hey, I would really like your thoughts on what you think is gonna happen to Russian Pointe or any other shoes made in Russia. I know there are much more important things than pointe shoes but I can’t help but wonder what will happen to them. I can’t be the only one. Much love ❤️

I love how Josephine educates the dance community and the non-dancers like myself who just appreciate the art of dance so much. ♥️ It is truly a joy listening to her. One size certainly does not fit all and these poor dancers coming in with injuries because they are forced to conform to a strange uniform like system should not have to suffer in this way. There is a better solution.
