The veneer is typically 1 inch thick and must weigh less than 15 pounds per square foot. Stone veneer can be made from natural stone as well as manufactured stone. Natural stone veneer is made from real stone that is either collected, i.e. fieldstone, or quarried. The stone is cut to a consistent thickness and weight for use as a veneer. This stone is often called thin stone veneer. Manufactured veneer is cheaper than natural stone, approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of natural stone. Its light weight eliminates the need for wall ties or footings and make it easier to Install. The variety of designs and colors makes available options which would not be available with natural stone, since natural stone is used in the general area around the locality which it is extracted.

In General:
Careful and proper installation is important for ensuring the long-lasting beauty of your Manufactured or Natural Stone. For all exterior applications, required installation includes a scratch coat (also known as cement plaster coating) over a water-resistive barrier. The water-resistive barrier generally consists of two layers of properly applied Grade paper, which is then covered with metal lath and a mortar scratch coating (cement plaster).

Installation over rigid sheathing:
The metal lath/scratch coating may be applied over structurally sound wall surfaces of plywood, OSB, concrete board or gypsum sheathing, supported by wood or steel studs, and over concrete or masonry walls.

Stone Veneer can be installed directly to clean, unpainted or unsealed brick, concrete block or poured concrete surfaces (interior or exterior) without requiring the use of metal lath. On previously coated surfaces, sandblast or waterblast to thoroughly clean. Where thorough cleaning is not possible, install metal lath and apply a scratch coat application.

Hi, where would I go to get the stone veneers like this? Would I go to a lawn and landscaping place to get it that sells stone or do I need to go to like a brick company? And I’m assuming you cut and shape it with a grinder and a wet saw.

Absolutely beautiful work!!!
So I see you simply put a scratch coat over the existing brick, correct? That's the way I've done it for years now but I had a rep tell me the other day that apparently we're supposed to put wire lath over the existing brick first 🤔
