Restoring a hita nata
Показать описание
I'm restoring a Japanese Hatchet because I need to harvest some more bamboo. The Japanese Carpenters Axe worked but Hita Nata are made for this job. I also need a shave. So two birds with one blade :)
Here is the shaving video:
Now I would normally call a tool like this a bill or a bill hook not a hatchet. For some reason its very common for Nata of all types to be translated as Hatchets not bills or machetes. Does anyone know why?
On this channel you can learn some tips on blade sharpening, saw sharpening, bringing old tools back into a lifetime of service. l I'm going to show off my Japanese tools and do project videos where I predominantly use Japanese tools to make stuff. I like starting woodworking projects with a log so you will get to see my axes and ripping saws at work before we move on to nomi and ryoba.
I'm no master so one of the thing I most want to do is just inspire people to jump in and have a go. What I've found is that even when a new project or learning a new skill is really really hard it gets easier really quickly.
"𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗻𝘂𝘁_𝗻𝗮𝗴" is my handle on Ebay. Every month I bring in several boxes of tools from Japan. Some I add to my tool kit others I sell on Ebay, Facebook or directly to people who have asked me to track down something special.
