I just got one of these scammers to bite. In the instance where he finally did bite, he tried to move off the app to cashapp. This would be a different scam all together and would divert liability away from @Offerup. If you are buying online, exercise caution and subscribe to ham radio dude.

Dude! Thanks for pointing this out. Great catch. This type of video is excellent. Really cool to have some videos in the ham world that focus on scams directed specifically to us. To me, this is high value content. There isn't enough of this exposure. Thanks for taking the time to pull the threads and report back. Awesome work! 73

Buying used electronics is risky enough as it is. People tweak them, mess them up and then offload.

Nice job. It shocks me the number of people that thinks this sort of behavior is ok. Congress needs to fix it (yeah, right).

It’s getting bad, I now only buy from retailers or friends selling equipment, if it’s to good it’s probably a scam

I'm not sure if they are actually shipping anything. I believe they just mass look up tracking numbers until they find one going to your zip code shipped on or shortly after the purchase date. Paypal almost always sides with the buyer especially if you open a case with the shipper and show that it went to a different delivery address.

I know that lady, her brother is the president of a major bank in Africa. there is a coup going on, so he needs to move his family wealth to a safe location until the government is established, then he can distribute it to the rightful owners. i was offered a fee of 2, 000, 000.00 dollars (about 5% of the total value of the funds) to hold it for them, then 5% percent of the individual accounts as each family member had them shipped through a different country so it would be done without the rebel government taking it all. At that moment in the transaction, I mentioned I worked for the treasury department of the United States. I never heard another word from them.

SELLERS be aware of the other way around. I had an individual try to scam me out of my ic-7300 that I was selling. He even sent a cashiers check for twice the amount I was asking. I was lucky to have sniffed him out BEFORE I shipped it to him. What a degenerate society we live in…..

OfferUp sounds like a scam. Punishment is coming for them. 73.

I had posted pictures of my pop up camper to an album. About a year later someone from a national discussion group contacted me asking if i was selling my camper as i had said nothing online. Turns out someone used my pics to sell their same model camper. My pics were better.

It is sad that you have to tell people that equipment worth $1500 is likely a scam if they are selling it for $600.
