What is the easiest and hardest support for you to play?

AbbyOW

i think zen is easy to play, but actually hard to bring value. His simplistic kit encourages you to experiment and find counters against most of the things yourself, other than just “click e for suzu”

From my perspective as a Lucio main, I think what makes him difficult is that his biggest impacts are on the micro level that lots of players don't have a great understanding of. Unlike other mobile supports his wallride isn't tied to a cooldown or dependent upon teammates being nearby, so you arguably have the most freedom to maneuver as long as you have the mechanical skill and creativity to pull it off, which gives you the freedom to spread your influence wherever you'd like. You can taxi someone out of spawn, speed boost a flanker and help them secure a pick, and facilitate a disengage in a matter of seconds; but the average player isn't going to put together that all of it is caused by the Lucio's actions. Compare that to a Mercy's rez and damage boost or a Lifeweaver's grip for example and you'll notice that players get instant feedback on how valuable the abilities are, both on the giving and receiving end. It took me a pretty significant amount of time and quite a few VOD reviews to realize that in my best games my contributions to the micro tipped the balance of the macro to an unbelievable degree, so much so that it's hardly an exaggeration to say that I ran the lobbies and nobody, including myself, even knew about it, and that's coming from someone who plays him extensively. To the untrained eye and inexperienced hand, Lucio looks and feels as if he has little impact because his impact in a match is the culmination of a huge amount of small actions

It’s crazy how Brig went from being as easy hero on release to become one of the hardest supports because you can’t frontline with her anymore. Ow1 brig was braindead

i think lucio is by far the most skill dependent i’d put him in his own tier above everyone else. you have to be way more skilled and have to try way harder than any other hero in the support roster. everyone else all seems pretty much exactly the same just with different shit to “spice it up” position behind cover, heal ur team, and shoot bad guys. lucio is the only exception to this rule. unless you count kiriko which ig but generally you aren’t going in with her as much as you do with lucio. To play lucio is to be the sweatiest one in the lobby… while blasting GAS GAS GAS on spotify.

ok so all my friends are casuals and i taught all of them how to play support on all support characters if i even mention lucio they will say “no he’s too hard.” they don’t even want to attempt lucio if they can’t get the result i can playing the character

i agree with just about everything you said except for zen and ana. i think as stand alone characters yes they can be difficult but when you take into account for the other support to account for their survivability. they can get bailed out and continue to provide utility especially zen. ana still has to aim with her abilities but zen can just keep that discord up and get bailed out. i also think with zen yea sure aiming with him is hard but you can get away with just shooting down a choke. It’s different for lucio bcz he doesn’t need anyone to compensate for anything except for his below average healing output and needs his other support to essentially just heal bot for home while enables the rest of his team and has the speed and capabilities to peel for that other support.

so tired of people calling mercy skilless. yes she has a low ceiling but her whole thing is movement and staying alive and timing.

I think Brig is a lot like Rein in that she takes almost zero mechanics, but rather knowledge, game sense, and timing. I’m not sure if punching the enemy one time is enough effort for the value that inspire brings, but knowing *where* to play her and *when* to make those decisions is where her skill expression lies.

Her range is a severe weakness and if you don’t know how to play her into poke, she’s useless. I guess in a super low elo, she’s probably extremely oppressive, similar to Moira. And just like Moira, she can be pretty easily taken down when you know how.

Ana isn’t hard nor is brig or zen I think they’re more about positioning and decision making along with landing your abilities. I think Lucio should be in his own category because like doomfist you need to be really good with him to get max benefits aka Reddit Lucio is the hardest support playstyle to do.

I’d put brig and mercy in easy and then kiriko in hard

I’ll kinda just go through each tier and give my opinion on each hero.

Easy- completely agree

Mid- mercy and Illari are in the correct spots, but bap is too high imo and I think kiri should be in the high mid/ low hard area. Imo kiriko’s strongest cd is her swift step, not her suzu. (But that’s a whole other can of worms). Overall I find her more annoying to play against rather than broken, and while she is overtuned, it’s still very hard to actually get value playing her because she requires more cd discipline than a lot of other supports. Bad positioning on kiriko means you will waste you swift step and your value will tank, while wasting regen burst or immortality on baptiste because of bad positioning doesnt take away the fact that you have a really consistent hitscan weapon that does too much damage.

Hard- I would move brig down to mid tier right above Illari. I find that the reason brig is hard to play isn’t because of the hero, but because overwatch is hard. Someone who fundamentally understands overwatch well will have a very easy time picking up brig and playing very effectively due to the lack of mechanical skill required to play her. There is some skill expression of course like cd discipline with her packs and rally timing, it I don’t think that’s enough to make her go into the hard tier.
I don’t think Ana is the hardest support, I’d give that title to Lucio or zen. Although Ana does require a lot of mechanical skill and game knowledge, she does have more forgiveness when it comes to dueling than zen does and I think that is the biggest defining factor. Positioning is more important on zen and so is mechanical skill, as that is where most of his value comes from. Ana doesn’t require as much mechanical skill due to having a hitscan option with forgiveness on teammates, and the biggest thing is her anti nade. Anti nade is the strongest cd in the game imo. While it does take skill to use it to its fullest potential, the value you get out of it is so high that you can spam it on tank and climb to masters pretty easily just like that, and it’s not hard to land anti nade on tank.
I won’t talk about Lucio because I don’t know enough about the character but I do believe him to be harder to play than Ana as well.

TLDR: my list (lowest to highest)
Easy: Moira, lifeweaver
Mid: mercy, Illari, brig, bap
Hard: kiri, Ana, zen/Lucio

Sorry for the essay

Abby will you participate in BlizzCon 2023 next week? And can I watch OW World Cup on your stream

I think you underrate how much mechanics plays into difficulty on this list and the dps list. Kiriko didn't have the lowest win rate in every single rank for 7 seasons straight, by accident. Overwatch is like 80% mechanics and positioning and 20% everything else.

If this is based on how difficult it is to get value on them, then ana, lucio, zen in hard, bap, brig, illari in mid, mercy, lifeweaver, moira in easy. Brig's only difficulty is to not frontline. Other than that the hero plays itself. Mercy is also super trivial to play. Yeah she has quite high skill ceiling, but if we take that into account then kiriko and bap go into hard aswell.
