I just don't understand the incessant need for unnecessary "change". There's a very simple philosophy that many companies can prosper from..."If it ain't broken, DON'T FIX IT!"

Edit: And by _change_ I meant all the unnecessary changes they made on Windows 11 in general. This whole thing is completely unnecessary. When will they realize most people are creatures of habit and can't stand having to relearn something new?

I think that Microsoft should just 100% SURRENDER already and open the entire start menu to be editable/customizable by all the users and stop keeping it locked down and come up with their own concept or vision that is one size fits all.

I like using the type of Start Menu as in Windows XP and Windows 7. These were the very best designs. I hope Microsoft will bring that back for Windows 11.

Well, obviously somebody in the Windoze dev team looked over a Mac user's shoulder and saw the dock and the launchpad, and thought: Now this looks good, and it seems to be very efficient, but we can't really straight copy that setup, so let's give it the MS treatment, mess it up, and implement it with one difference: The user cannot configure it to their liking and preferences, we just give you a few categories, and that is it. Panos Panay left a big hole.

I like Linux Mint's Start Menu. Resembles a lot Win XP's Start Menu - “If it ain't broke, don't fix it.”

too little too late the third parties are always going to be better

Yeh they need to do something as the STD menu is to plain/old. You cant beat stardock and the customisation they offer for w11, and the tabs bring everything together nicely.

I liked the Windows 7 - 10 style, but! One thing 3rd party also allows is customisation of the Windows logo / icon you click to pull up the menu. Personally Brian I got board of the blue windows icon on windows 11 and replaced it with a more colourful version I modded to glow when the mouse cursor is placed over it or the menu is in use.

The classic Start Menu is still the best. The staet menu has been a real mess since Windows 8.

I like Windows 11 much better than Windows 10. I am glad that Start Menu is improving. Will Microsoft re-enable the possibility to resize icons on the Taskbar like in Windows XP and 7?

Well Brian I have mine set as the basic stuff I use and most of my go to tasks like command prompt, snipping tool (old version), Settings, Google, Brave, etc are on the taskbar where I just find them more convenient. So I don't have a problem with the start menu per se'. Having said that it is very annoying that Microsoft do not listen to what people want, it is so arrogant as though they think they know what people want and frankly then set the whole OS up to meet their own dedicated needs.

Thank you, Brian. 👍🏼 (I use *StartAllBack.* I hope these new changes don't break it. 🙄)

I'd be happy if they brought 'classic' mode back

Categories reminds of maybe back at WinXP (?) I did find that useful at times (when exploring for features).

Thanx for heads up mate. Finally, it looks like MS is waking up a bit & heeding users & people like you. 👍👍👍

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the Win NT/95 version.
Fortunately the "Open Shell Menu" works fine on Win 10/11 and got me through the Win 8 fiasco.

Thanks for another great video Brian.
Companies like Microsoft only keep changing their software because they want us to keep spending money on what they market as the best software to date. I wish I had stuck with Windows 10 or even 7.
