John, call it as it is.. that country is a hell hole. I feel terrible for the people that are forced to live there.

This makes me realize how thankful I am to have the life I have.

I'm South Korean and living in Washington, this actually surprises me. This just shows how freaking strict North Korea is. I'm grateful for being born in South Korea. But wow! What a shocking news!

This is straight awful. It’s horrible. That’s the most extreme punishment. Be happy that you don’t have to live under such rules

This convinced me that North Korea is hell on earth

Things like this make me appreciate being from the UK and I am sure it applies to North Americans. Yeah life can be hard but in the grand scheme of things we have it pretty good. At least we are free to experience life if we abide by some simple laws. We have life pretty good compared to others. I am thankful for that.

I don't think talking about a country stripping its people of its free will and getting put to death for simply watching a show is above anyone's pay grade. And it doesn't even seem like it's getting a big splash. I just looked this up and I'm seeing some outlets talking about it a few days ago but the only reason why I'm hearing about it is because of this channel. This is the kind of shit people need to know is going on in the world.

Imagine losing your life because of Squid Game. This world is getting crazier every day!

The scary thing is, is that this is only one of the few reports of this kinda thing happening in North Korea that has become international knowledge. The last report I had heard from this year was a bunch of kids were arrested for listening to BTS' music in public. We will never know the extent of how harsh things are in North Korea but this just gives a glimpse into what its like.

If you've ever listened to some of the North Korean defectors stories this would not surprise you. One kid was born in a North Korean concentration camp, the horrific things that kid went through before he escaped to South Korea.

This is why the idea of North Korea having nuclear technology is terrifying. If they do these things to THEIR OWN CITIZENS then what wouldn’t they be willing to do to the rest of the world if given the chance?

I don't know, maybe rather than being "grateful that it's not us", we should be angry that we can live in a world that doesn't put care for all human lives first. Having walked the streets of San Francisco and New York, and seen the shocking level of homelessness and lack of safety net - in a country where apparently it can cost $400 to call out an ambulance(!) - we need to look at our priorities and address the way people are dehumanised. It's easy to be grateful it's not us, until it is. We don't even need to watch Squid Game to learn this.

The fact that John finds this surprising at all proves to me that he really doesn’t know anything about North Korea. By the way it’s not just South Korean products. Only North Korean media is allowed to be in the country.

This isn’t news to me it’s bad over there man trust me! There is nothing you can say John this is just insanity! North Korea is ridiculous. The US is paradise compared to these other places. It’s bad over there and makes you appreciate everything that you have in the US. Glad you spoke about it.

reminds me of that kid who went on an internship to n korea and was caught stealing a framed picture. he was arrested and mysteriously died due to health complications. not even the help of Trump, during his presidency, could help get the kid back to homeland. crazy.

Wouldn't even be a topic of discussion if no one in the U.S. saw it
crazy when you think about it

There’s a clinical psychologist named Jordan B Peterson who has a two hour interview with someone who defected from North Korea. The insane thing is that she didn’t defect because she wanted freedom, she defected because she was starving (they aren’t even told the word freedom since birth) The stuff she talks about is truly insane, not to mention her suffering didn’t end after she left North Korea.
