Volibear is quite good as a first pick IMO, he beats many melee champions, can play safe vs ranged and is very tanky.

I strongly believe that sett is one of the perfect first picks for top..first enemy could think he is support or jungle. Secondly his passive healing and shield from W make him very reliable during landing phase...lastly his gank setups and teamfights are very strong

While I LOVE Shen when playing with a coordinated team I just find him hard to climb with in low elo. I can win lane hard, save other lanes from death and put them ahead, but the games always stretch out SO LONG in low elo. I just fall off too hard late game and the teams I get just never understand the importance of getting objectives or pushing early advantages. I think I'll probably pick up Malphite and Pantheon til I get to a higher elo and can rely on my teammates more. Thanks for the list, you've revitalized my desire to climb solo queue

I think wukong can work as a first pick. He lacks sustain but his W makes him hard to gank. In a rough lane you can use E to farm and walk away.

Gnar is probably one of the best firstpicks imo. He has range, great teamfight with his megaform, can kite, can all in, can farm safe, etc. He isnt the easiest to play tho

Sion and Maokai are safe scaling Tanks that are always usefull late Game, also with those 2 you can easy set up ganks

Gnar is my go to blind pick, can beat any matchup if you play around your mega and mini form correctly

Kennen is a good first pick. Ranged, CC, fast as fuck, works with low farm, very few losing matchups.

I think that Wukong is a very good first pick, because he doesnt have too many counters and with his W he has a pretty safe laning phase.

I feel like Sett is a SAFE first pick that is also versatile (juggernaut/bruiser/tank all work). Even can lane decently against ranged with W max.

If you are a good fiora you can basically go into any matchup, sure some are harder than others but there wouldn't be any hard counters if you play it properly

Aatrox is a fine blind pick as well in my opinion

I think urgot is a terrific first pick because hes really good at just pushing the wave faster then anyone and getting a cheater so even when in a rough matchup you can just push roam and stop them from being able to abuse you also his e makes him pretty safe and a 1v2 machine when ganked he also is a monster when ahead taking every turret and being super tanky and dealing so much damage and i just think he provides alot

Sion and Maokai are pretty solid tanks that you can first pick. They scale well, are pretty easy and safe to play, and have massive setup potential either for ganks or teamfights.

Ornn is quite good. I don't know if he has any losing matchups + he's very good in teamfights.
Riven is quite hard to play, but only has 2 or 3 losing matchups (mainly Urgot, Poppy and Quinn). She's also a very good splitpusher and brings a good amount of cc in the teamfights, but loses once behind and gets outscaled by the majority of Champions.
