My favorite controller ever is the DualShock 4. Easy to grip, feels great on the hands wherever you put them, intuitive, etc. No other controller can compete.

Recently, I picked up my PS4 controller to move it, after I haven't played with it in a while and _wow, _ that thing is great.  It's like holding a piece of heaven.  Too bad I'm not really interested in any of it's games other than ones I already own on other consoles.  I guess there are some cool games coming out soon, though.

Oh hell yeah, man! This was the first console I ever owned, and the differentiation of the buttons is GLORIOUS!

I was about to comment GameCube controller before you mentioned it.

The GameCube controller was really nicely designed and the Wavebird was revolutionary as one of the first wireless controllers :) but for me my favourite controllers are a tie between the 360 and the SNES and I'm also quite fond of the Mega Drive controller (classic and 6 button) it's a bit on the chunky side but just holding one brings back waves of nostalgic memories of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe marathon sessions :) Really great vid Shane :)

I bought the re make of Resident Evil for Gamecube and fell in love with the controller it is the most comfortable I have ever used.. I never had a gamecube when I was younger but am now happily searching for games because of the controller alone..

Super Monkey Ball Deluxe became a lot harder when it was ported to the Xbox/PS2, as it did not have those octagons. It made control a lot less precise on the thin platforms.

The Gamecube controller has my favorite analog stick for sure. But the buttons are like someone shot Play-Doh out of a shotgun at it. I don't like the button layout very much. I always forget which one is X and which one is Y (Nintendo also has a habit of doing reverse-alphabetical order for some odd reason so that throws me off as well). The trigger buttons are horrible and the Z button is useless and very uncomfortable. The d-pad is a joke and it's very uncomfortable to use. The c-stick is bizzare and not of the same quality as the regular  analog pad. Plus the whole thing looks like it's from PLAYSKOOL. The Pro Controller is much better but that almost seems like more of a peripheral since it was never the official controller of anything. The Wii U version is good as well except that the right analog stick and button placements are inverted.

Plenty of people like the Genesis controller. Well, at least the official 6-button controller. NOT the crappy Majesco one that comes with Genesis 3s. NOT any that have turbo or slow down switches. Just the normal Sega 6-button Genesis controller. Second best controller ever. Everything is pretty much perfect. Best d-pad, great buttons and the MODE button isn't uncomfortable at all for the few games that use it. The best controller is the Saturn model 2 controller. Same d-pad as the Genesis 6-button, slightly better buttons plus proper L and R buttons as well.

I always considered the Classic Controller pro a necessary evil more than anything. Like you said, it's really flimsy. The D-pad eventually wears out over time and for some reason ends up somewhere between spongy and stiff. The rest of the buttons do that, too.

I think the Wii U Pro controller's design more than made up for it, though, although fans of the octagons may be disappointed.

There's a reason the Gamecube is getting an adapter for the Wii U release of Super Smash Bros., and this pretty much sums up why.  Excellent video for the last time Nintendo developed a controller to actually be held by human hands.

What's cool is that the Wii Pro Nunchuck has that Joystick design!

The GCN controller is pretty good if the game is made for it. For instance, F-Zero GX is great on it. D-pad wise, its probably my least favorite of anything. It's way too small and pretty much useless. Love the analog stick though.

I'm kind of a big fan of the Genesis pad - both the 3 button and the 6 button (whose design would be perfected with the JPN Saturn Pad). The thing that strikes me about the 3 and 6 button pads is their size difference. I'd forgotten just how big the Genesis 3 button was.

On a side note, I have a really hard time dealing with non first party controllers - unless it serves a special purpose (like Hori's Gameboy Player pad). If I have a choice, I'll always choose first party.

I agree with you the Game Cube is one of the best except for the red button being too close to the green one and some times I would hit it by mistake. Also the other best controller is the Dreamcast Controller.
