How to Install GSI ROM on ANY Android Device w/ Project Treble & Unlocked Bootloader! [TWRP Method]

For those of you who want to install Project Treble GSI(Generic System Image) ROM on your Android device with unlocked bootloader, you can use TWRP recovery to install them.

UPDATE: For Android 10/11 GSI ROMs, this method may NO LONGER WORK FOR ALL. I have updated methods for Samsung devices here:

Here's how to install GSI ROM on ANY Android Device that is Project Treble compatible and has unlocked bootloader. This video is for reference only, please check the actual written tutorial and read thoroughly before trying so you also get any updates if watching this in the future:

You can check if your phone supports Project Treble. Make sure your original firmware is updated to the latest(as many manufacturers like OnePlus have added support) then use the Treble Check app here:

I just tried it on my s9 that is rooted with twrp but i came in a bootloop am i doing something wrong i? Or am i downloading the wrong files? Fortunately i made a backup file before flashing.

Ok, you seem to be the best, and most straight forward wih tutorials, so my question is this. I have been trying for ages to root my Verizon Galaxy S7 on 8.0.0. It does have the OEM unlock switch enabled in dev. options. Is there a reliable root method for my S7? Thanks in advance.Also yes, it has a snapdragon 820

Let's say I got 2 devices that support project treble, how do I backup the gsi rom with all its data and apps and restore it to the other device? Just a normal twrp backup? Do they need to have the same type a or a/b?

hi max, doing this on oneplus 6 right now, and after I flashed img file and rebooted to recovery, it is stuck on the twrp loading screen. what should I do? also when I was wiping, I had no option to wipe cache

Hi thank you for the tutorial. I have Pixel XL and have tried every method twrp, fastboot, to flash a GSI but the furthest I have got is the Android splash screen. I did a fastboot -w and still cannot get off the android screen. is there something I'm missing that's specific to the Pixel XL google edition? Ive tried unsuccessfully to flash and 10 and 11. my firmware is up to date I'm doing the steps.
