Ask Fr. Josh is the question and answer show to help you navigate life when our Catholic Faith doesn’t give an easy “fill-in-the-blank” answer.

Where does one of the most common and popular Catholic prayers, the Hail Mary come from? Is it even in Sacred Scripture?

Today, Fr Josh answers this question and encourages us to see how this greeting to our heavenly mother can help us deepen our love and understanding of both the Old and New Testaments.

Can't get enough of learning about Mary, our Mother in Heaven.

My advice is: If you don't know which is the one and only true denomination, find the one that is most hated by the world: Catholicism. This is Satan's tactic, yet the Church still prevails, just like Jesus said it would in Matthew 16:18

The connection to Old Testament is so important to help Catholics and Christians understand the importance of Mary to the covenant that God made with us, all humans. This also means she is the greatest example of a woman’s role to God and the church.

It is not biblical. A greeting is as different from prayer as you can get. Also asking for others to pray for us is not prayer. God alone, through Jesus Christ is the only proper recipient of prayer. When the Lord taught us to pray, he did not pull out his rosary and begin, “Hail Mary full of grace” but rather, “Our Father who art in heaven.”

Sinlessness of Mary? No. Saved from original sin? Only from the guilt of it through her son like the rest of us.

Mary is the new ark? Oh my, no. The hermeneutical gymnastics with Revelation there was profound.

Asking supplications of those not here with? No. Paul, who we are told taught this, never hints that the thought ever crossed his mind.

Jesus crushes Satan’s head? Absolutely. Praise God. Pray to the Father through the Son and crease this practice that is no where found on the pages of the New Testament. God has made a way for sinners to go directly to him in prayer at great cost. Do not cheapen it by unbiblical prayers to one who is no God.

Thank you father Josh for explaining that. You explained it perfectly! So thank you for that! Now I know how to answer when someone ask me that question! And I can also explain why we pray to the Virgin Mary! Because she is also of great importance of our spiritual walk with Jesus Christ our Lord and our savior!

So well said. We do not worship Mary; we honor her. God put so many special people on this earth that thru his grace did or participated in wonderful things. They are not idols. They are people in our lives to be remembered and honored. Hail Mary indeed❤️🙏🏻👍

Lk 1:28, 42-43, Jm 5:16 Asking Virgin Mary, our Mother for her prayers is like asking our own mother, but Virgin Mary is The Mother of God The Son Jesus Christ. He performed His first miracle at her request. God hears and answers prayers of the just first Jm 5:16, 1Tim 2:1.

Jesus also called the Samaritan woman at the well, `woman.' (John 4:21) Why?

Acts 1:12 "Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers."

So my question is were they praying the Hail Mary here? Was Mary praying to herself?

Mary was alive when the angel spoke to her. We should not speak to dead people. After her death, only Jesus is live now, correct?

We need more videos like this explaining our faith so we can defend it.

The commentator speaking of Mary: "She was immaculately conceived." "She was without sin." These comments declare that Mary was conceived in her mother's womb without the stain of original sin, which means that Mary was not born of the corruptible seed of Adam.
However, the Scriptures teach that only Jesus was not born of the corruptible seed of Adam. "He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we could become the righteousness of God." Nowhere in scripture does it make any hint of Mary having the same characteristic. As a matter of fact, in the Gospel of Luke, Mary called God her Savior.

It’s simple : JESUS FIRST above all things, then Mary who we can also look up to and then the saints who followed Jesus in an amazing beautiful way
