Singles from albums are considered for the year they were released as singles, not for the year the album was released. Album tracks not released as singles are considered for the year the album was released.

1974 wasn’t a good year for mainstream music. I forgot these bright spots. The only 2 I might disagree with are the bitch is back and I shot the sheriff. While not bad songs they were not the high point of those artists careers. I would add Fleetwood Mac hypnotized.
