big electric motor 3000 kW - startup test sound

Показать описание
We present a typical 3000 kW motor start in our test field. You can see and hear how such a big motor starts. The accelerating takes about 90 seconds from 0 to 993 min-1. This is the maximum speed that a 6-pole slip ring motor of this size can achieve.

Enjoy the big motor starting sound!

The video shows a three-phase asynchronous motor with slip ring rotor with a nominal voltage of 10500 V and a power output of 3000 kW. It features a shaft height of 630 and a total weight of approx. 13.5 tons (including cooling system) - a typical motor size of our day-to-day business.

Electric motors of this type and size are used, for example, as main drives in cement mills or as compressor or fan motors. Slip ring motors are the motors of choice whenever high starting torque or low starting current are required. They are especially suitable for heavy load inertia applications.

Oh come on, I'm stuck yet again in the electric motor start-up corner of youtube.
And your videos make it worth it! :) The attention to detail is awesome. Thank you for such content!

I was looking at the Amps thinking "30 Amps? Not bad for how large that motor is." But then I realized its running with 3, 500 Volts

Very smooth running, should be available just in time for Christmas.

Fun fact: Even a very powerful motor spinning without a load takes very little energy to run as the reverse voltage generated by the coils cutting the magnetic field cancels out the supply voltage. The same is true for generators as well. If you place an electrical load on a generator, the shaft gets harder to turn.

P.S. The youtube algorithm is weird.

The sound of power and a lot of vindicated engineers. Beautiful machine. It's crazy to think that we went from barely harnessing fire to 3-megawatt engines.

This takes me back to my days in the mining industry where we had a 3900kW compressor motor. Started using a Korndoffer starter.

Shall we upload another video with electric motor sound?

I remember the days before semi conductors, all done by gradually shorting out large resistors. The smell and the shimering above the panels are something I will always remember.

Thanks for the upload. You may be interested to know that I saw the DOL test start of a 5 MW, 6 kV squirrel cage motor for a power plant . It took only 4 seconds to accelerate to rated speed 1492 rpm Line voltage sag was 22%. Motor function was to drive a condensate pump

We used similar sized motors at the nuke power plant I worked at as condensate and feed pump motors. 4 in a bank x 2 banks. I don't remember for sure, but I think they were 12KV and 6K HP. They were vertically mounted with the big multistage pumps at the bottom. I was standing next to one when they started it. (My first time.) Scared the crap out of me...and I knew what to expect!

The sound of electric motors and combustion engine is what terrifies me during my childhood times and now its the opposite

This video reminds me my classes of "electric machines" all about electric motors in technical high school
Thank you for uploading this

It sounds like a jet engine, so cool! This is why engineering is awesome..we can achieve such great things!

This started up remarkably smooth/silent
We have some almost 30year old 10500V 163A fans that start up pretty violently in comparison :D

That's an incredible amount of power (1 hp is about 746 watts) so this is over 4, 000 hp!
